The title's a song reference, props to whoever guesses where it's from.
So hi to all, I guess I'll mainly be involved in the fanfic section and the like, but who knows really? Used to be quite active on the roleplay scene, but that was some time ago now.
For more of an intro, I suppose I'll give a quick rundown on my thoughts on the series:
Gen I
Well it's the one that started it all really, so you always have to give it that in spite of the constant improvements the latter gens made, and I guess there is a certain something about it no latter gen really had.
Gen II
One of the most highly regarded gens out there, and I'd have to agree. Not only were there massive updates and many new features over Gen I, but who wasn't taken by surprise by being able to venture back into Kanto again (granted a rather downsized, though I hear this was the result of having to squeeze in a lot on what little cartridge remained, plus I also hear that HG/SS fix most of this).
That said, the introduction of roaming legendaries has forever been a sore spot for me.
Gen III
Easily the most underrated Gen I'd say. While maybe Hoenn sported a few too many water routes near the very end (better than Sinnoh's cave routes and much higher encounter rate all throughout the game) I was really fond of the region with its design, size and variety of locations.
I also quite enjoyed the evil vs evil dynamic between Teams Magma and Aqua. The fact that (unlike Gens IV and V), we actually get to see the apocalypse their actions bring out, and that Ruby and Sapphire was the first time we get to confront a legendary as part of the plot really raise the bar.
On the FR/LG remake front, well I liked the Sevii Islands and girl trainer design, but not much else to say.
All in all, tied with II for being my favourite Gen.
Gen IV
Eh, for me this Gen just sorta flew by, I could barely remember Sinnoh region or the Pokémon it introduced. I never thought it was bad or anything, just sorta there. However a LP of Platinum I read did convince me that maybe I'd been a little too harsh on this Gen and inspired me to try to give it a fairer shot.
Gen V
As opposed to the I feel 'underrated' Gen III, and unlike Gen II which if you ask me deserves its high reputation, V has always been the 'overrated' Gen to me. That's not to say I don't like it, far from it, but I'd probably like it more if people didn't hail it up to be some sort of big revolution.
I admit it certainly raises some strong themes for the franchise which places its own self under question... but that's all I felt I did: Raise themes, but not actually do anything with them. It doesn't help that a certain late-game plot twist really weakens Team Plasma's image and that they're reduced to a generic evil team in B2&W2.
Oh, and another Fire/Fighting starter, seriously? The first Gym's not even a Rock-type, so that excuse hardly works. Okay, I do realise the Tepig line's based off another character from Journey To The West (Zhu Baijie, with the Chimchar line being Sun Wukong) but, sorry if I disrespect one of China's most revered liteary works, if anything that just makes it more redundant! At least there's a handy LV35 Volcarona we can switch to in B2&W2, I guess...
Eh, that's me and my big mouth. Anyway, looking forward to being on the forums and hoping this all works out.
