I wouldn't say i am a huge fan, but I really enjoy playing the games. I haven't played a pokemon game since the gold and silver versions, so I'm way behind on what's what (and starting from scratch). I mainly got back into playing the games because of the online features DP brought into the series now (though i kinda find the logic behind the workings of the GTS slightly retarded, friend codes i can live with).
Hopefully i can just find some people to battle, trade, etc in the near future (haven't put together a real team yet). Trying to get my hands on all the original kanto pokemons (especially the starters), for the sake of nastalgia. At least some of my favorites are catchable in some form or another in DP.
