Hi,

So I've played some pokemon games in the past, but that was mostly when I was just a kid and would just pick whoever I thought was cool. Now I still want to pick ones that I think are cool, but I also want them to have a function. Now being as this is the first real, "team" that I'm trying to put together there are a lot of things I might not know. I was hoping some of you here would be kind enough to help me out.

At the core of my team I was thinking tyranitar, cradily, and reuniclus. Sandstorm to boost tyranitar and cradily's sp. def. and reuniclus's overcoat to protect him. I'm also thinking reuniclus should provide a lot of boosting moves.

Not really sure where to go from here, but here are some pokemon I'm considering: qwilfish, weavile, crobat, medicham, or hariyama.

Any criticism and advice is welcome.

Thanks

It really depends on what kind of team you're trying to make. Judging from the three you picked as a core you have a making of a sandstorm based team with T-Tar as a sand inducer, Cradily as a wall and Reuniclus as a bulky attacker/fighting counter. A good start, I especially like Reuniclus on this kind of team since it deals with troublesome fighting types well without being bothered by sand. If you want to go that road there are many pokemon that work well with sand.

Hippowdon (Good secondary sand inducer if you want to mega evolve Tyranitar since sand is no longer permanent)
Garchomp and Excadrill (Very powerful sweepers in sand; though Excadrill is more dependent on it)
Gliscor and Skarmory (Extra defensive power against physical attackers, Gliscor can also handle fighting types and stays alive long thanks to poison heal but Skarmory has whirlwind/roar, entry hazards and more resists)
Ferrothorn (Good entry hazard user and effective against water and grass types)
Gastrodon (Immune to water thanks to storm drain and helps spread status like scald burns and toxic while being very durable thanks to recover)
Aegislash (Immune to fighting and generally very cool and very powerful in the right hands)
Scizor (Them bullet punches, not much else to say)
Klefki (A bit odd but it has prankster and many helpful status moves)
Forretress (Lots of entry hazards and has rapid spin for anti entry hazard support)

Mandibuzz and Stoutlabd also make good Sand Pokémon that aren't Rock/Ground/Dteel type if you want some diversity.

Obligatory plug for the BBL Mentorship Program I'm surprised that GB didn't link right here.

The Mentorship Program should be able to help you with the basics of Team Building as well as introduce you to aspects of the game you may not have known about.

Now, I am an idiot too so you should probably listen to the guys above but Gogoat is a great defensive wall if you use it right and it can cover for water while the Rock types covers Gogoats weaknesses. Here is the set I use:

Gogoat
Item: Big Root(for HP stealing)
Ability: Sap Sipper(using this will also cover weakness for Grass on T-tar and Cradily).
EVs: 252 Def, 252 HP, 4 Atk
Nature: Adamant should be the best although I have a different one(got tired of breeding).
Moves:
Horn Leech
Substitute
Rock Slide
Bulk Up

You use the Bulk Up to increase defense and offense and then you go for Horn Leech and get your health back. I defeated a Mega Kangaskhan using this. Sub is for stalling and Rock Slide covers most(f not all)weaknesses.

Wouldn't it be better to invest in SpD if you'd go with a +Def, -SpA nature? If so Max SpD at level 50 hits 133 while +Def Nature w/o investment at lv 50 hits 73. At +2 due to Bulk Up Gogoat would be a nice little tank, especially if you used its Hidden Ability and involved Grassy Terrain somehow. Tell me this set doesn't seem rough to fight:

Gogoat @ Big Root
Grass Pelt (Increases Defense by 50% if on Grassy Terrain)
Impish (+Def, -SpA)
244 HP / 12 Atk / 252 SpD
Horn Leech
Substitute
Rock Slide
Bulk Up

I went with 244 HP EV investment due to it being evenly split into 4 upon investment.

I did not go with +Def -Sp Def nature. My goat has +Atk, -Speed. It does great anyways, as it is bulky enough to take a hit, tank one more with Bulk Up and heal with Horn Leech. Could work great on a sand team. Could work on a rain team too if you changed Rock Slide for Earthquake as it is immune too Grass with Sap Sipper and resists Electric.

Well to start off..
You have to take the Pokemon's weakness and work on those.
Example! Lets say you have a Scizor on the field. Scizor only has 1 weakness and is quad effective on (him?) and so, using a Pokemon that resist Fire moves, is recommended.
Doing your research, u know that Scizor gets walled by Rotom, Charizard, Skarmory, etc... so a Latios would be a perfect partner. Resisting those fire and electric moves, immune to ground type attacks, and and can kill those walls that Scizor gets walled by.
~HP Fire to check those steel types
~Draco Meteor to massively dent or even kill Charizard and Rotoms
~Physhock for STAB and coverage
~Defog / Trick / Surf for whichever build you like on Latios

Rinse and repeat this process, and soon you have a team.
Now building a more complicated team such as a "Volt-Turn" or "Sandstorm" team is quite difficult. I would recommend you get used to the Metagame before building one.
