So I am going to get a much awaited Gible tomorrow. However, Lugion told me it would only be so so unless I EV trained it. I have no idea what that means or how to do it!

Help a fellow out?

EVs are like individual experience points for each stat, which can be gained by fighting a pokemon that is associated with the stat. For example, defeating a Geodude will give you one EV in Defense. Four EVs will gain you one extra stat point. The highest number of effective EVs is 252. Thus, if you gain 252 EVs in one stat, you will gain 63 extra stat points. At most, you can have 510 EV points in total. You should check out the 'pedia article for more detail.

To further back this up, only 2 stats can be maxed out.

Also, post this in the Simple Questions thread next time around.

As a final note, if you want to EV train a Pokemon, it's usually best to make it stick to what it does best.

A Pokemon like Garchomp, for example, is fast and hits hard, a sweeper, so you should max out his Attack and Speed EVs to maximize effectiveness.

Also, your Pokemon starts EV training the second it gains it's first experience point and doesn't stop until it's hit the 510 limit. This means that you have to EV train a Pokemon first, then level it up regularly once your done.

Also, as PlatinumDude said, Simple Questions next time.
