I got a chain of 51 with machop using mewtwo, and didn't get any shinies.
just to ask, at what number have you commonly found shinies?:dumb:
 
When your chain reaches 40, you don't have to continue. You can just walk and recharge your Poke radar till you see a shiny patch.
 
Your chances of finding a shiny doesn't increase when your chain reaches 40. If you reset the radar and see 4 patches, between all of those patches there is only a 2% chance of seeing a shiny patch. There are many guides on how best to do this. Also getting 51 on a chain is really hood espescially for a beginner. I'm guessing you're chaining on route 207?
 
yeah, my second and third best are 17, have no idea how I lasted that long, I wanted to kill that stupid geodude that appeared
