I NEED somone to go into EXTREME detail on EV training! I don't get it!

After I hatched my TOTODILE egg I imediatly put the POWER BRACER on him and fought over a hundred battles... then I switched the P.B. with the POWER ANKLET, but I barely got any EVs for speed.

Does this mean EVs for a single stat can go beyond 255 and become usless?

I'm confused!

read the damn thread about it :[

..it's only on the first page. Is it really that hard to just look? D:

What I believe that he's asking is this: Can more than 255 EVs be placed in a stat? If so, then will those EVs be ignored? The answer to both questions is no. EVs cap at 255.

If I remember correctly, Power items give you additional EVs. That is, you get all of the EVs that the battle normally would have given you, plus others from the item. If the EVs aren't the same type, then you're not accounting for everything. For example, say that you fight 100 Magikarp. Your Totodile will gain 1 speed EV for every battle, plus 4 attack EVs. When you're done battling, your Totodile will have 100 speed EVs and 255 attack EVs.

Now, if you're battling many different types of Pokémon, then you're getting many different types of EVs. Keep in mind that EVs cap at 255 for each stat, but the total EV count caps at 510. This means that those stray EVs are eating up room, which explains why your speed stat is so low. My suggestion: Knowing that your attack is maxed out, give your Totodile EV-reducing berries of every other type until the EVs in the other stats are gone, and then re-train speed.

In the future, you'll want to make sure that you fight the correct Pokémon for the correct EVs, Power items or no, and carefully count your total EVs after every battle. There's a Pokétch app. that's practically made for this, but a pen and paper will work just as well.

He said he put the power Anklet on it too. I think I get the problem, he probably did not realise Pokemon themselves gives off EVs and probably got a bunch of random ones.

If he is not lying and did fight "ove a hundred battles" than all his attack EVs would have been filled long before then, plus all the additional random EVs.

So power items will give 4EVs for their type regardless of poke fought?
I only thought you got the EV bonus if it matched the EVs you'd gain from experience. Silly me.
