I have just spent an hour trying to capture latias, and I am very frustrated. Does anybody have some tips as to catch her? Thanks.

What exactly have you been trying? The best bet it to wait until she reaches a particular route and then use repels until you find her.

I've been chasing her all around hoenn...

Here's what I usually do. Go to the route directly above Slateport where there is the patch of grass near the entrance to the bike path. Use your repel, run around a bit, if Latias is not there, go into the building and come back out. Repeat until she ends up on that route. Saves you the trouble of chasing, and usually doesn't take more than maybe 5-10 minutes.

@Troggy: thanks! Is there a way to know if she's there without running into her? Like in FR/LG there would be a hesitation when the pokemon was in the grass, does that happen in S/R?
@ryuu: thank you!

Not that I know of, give it a good run around, maybe 50-100 steps.

try and get a wynaut or it's evolution, or a pokemon that knows mean look. This will make it impossible for it to run away in battles.

Hope this helps.

If you have a Pokemon with a high Speed stat, keep it at the top of your party. Then when Latias appears, you might be able to get an attack in before she runs away.

Use moves like Mean Look or Hypnosis to stop her from escaping, or make your lead Pokemon hold a Shadow Tag.

If you accidentally make Latias faint, I strongly recommend turning off your game without saving, otherwise you'll never get another chance to catch her! You could save the game whenever you know she's around, as a safety measure. It's a good idea to save often anyway.

Hope that helps!

Latias will change routes after you reset, so saving wont work

Alright, I recommend these tips:

1. Go to any route, bike between locations, such as between a route and a town. Every time you enter a new place, Latias (or any other roaming Pokemon for that matter) will change locations. Keep checking the map for her appearance in the route you wait in, and use repel. Don't use repel early.

2. Keep a Pokemon with VERY high speed stats with moves like Mean Look, such as Gengar. It might be a little difficult to get, but it's the best chance you have against Latias or Latios. Other things that can work are Arena Trap ability, found on Diglett, Dugtrio, and Trapinch. Trapinch should be plenty in Route 226, if my memory still serves me.

3. Lastly, you can be a little patient, and wait for the Mirage Island event to activate in your game. Everyday, the game mainframe generates a random number, if it matches yours, Mirage Island will appear. There's plenty of Wynaut there, or even get the egg from Fallabor Town. Another place to get this Shadow Tag ability is the Safari Zone, where you can uncommonly find Wobbutfet.

Get a Wobbuffet, and go to the place between routes and run back and forth across them until latias is in the same route you are. Alternatively, if you have saved your masterball, Mean Look or Shadow Tag are not necessary.

The way I caught Latias/Latios is I just bought some max repels(you need a pokemon thats higher lvl than the pokemon in the wild but lower or same level as Latias/Latios) and if a pokemon appears it should be it. Use a master ball(If you kept it..)

All I did was go back and forth from town to wild, and Latios appeared in the grass. Then I just used my master ball. Like a boss.

Giving her a status condition will make her easier to catch as well. It's best to try for paralysis, freezing, or sleep since those don't decrease health. Using super fang to decrease her health by half each time you see her should help to lower her health to make the capture easier as well.

The original poster made this thread back in 2010. Needless to say, odds are replies are pointless at this point in 2012.
Closing.
