Hi guys! Sorry if this is in the wrong Forum, I'm new here and couldn't figure out where this should go. This Forum seemed like the best place. So, here we go!
I decided to start building a Competitive Team. So far, I have one Pokémon: Gourgeist (Average Size). I was looking online, and this seemed like a good option...

Average Size Gourgeist@ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 Defense/252 Attack/4 Speed
Moves:
• Rock Slide
• Seed Bomb
• Phantom Force
• Focus Blast

I need help with the other members. I was hoping someone could fit Amoonguss or Gothitelle in there somewhere... If you need to, you can change Gourgeist's moveset/Ability/Nature. I just want a Gourgeist in the team! All responses are appreciated! Thanks for reading!

Welcome! It seems your'e new to competitive Pokemon, but hey, when I started playing competitively I used Delibird in OU!
First, we need to know what kind of team are you planning to build. I, personally, avoid using walls and just use 6 attackers most of the time, but that's just me. Still, offense is easier to use than stall, so I think you should start from OU offense.
Why not start from an entry hazard user? Personally, as an Ice-type fanatic, I really like SRMamo, and this is the Mamoswine I have, why not give it a try?

@Focus Sash
252Atk/4SpD/252Spe
Adamant nature, Oblivious trait
~Earthquake
~Ice Shard
~Icicle Crash
~Stealth Rock

There are many variations to this, you can run Icicle Spear, Jolly nature, or even Endeavor to use when Sash is activated to reduce the foe to 1HP and then pick it off with Ice Shard.
If you want a different SR user, why not run Heatran, Tyranitar, or maybe even go Spikes and run Froslass? Take in account Ice, as good as it is in OU in means of offensive coverage, is a very bad defesnive typing, so many people choose not to run more than one on a given team; Mamo specifically is neutral to SR, so that's one weakness off your'e mind.
If you want to go really fancy, you can use the old Metagross set with SR from pervious gens, or even run lead Jirachi.
Tell me if you need more help!

Hello! Thank you for the response! Yeah, both of us are new to Competitive Battling... The real reason I want to use a Gourgeist is that Pumpkaboo is the only Pokémon I've tried to breed for the IVs! Both of us have a vauge idea of what a wall is, but a clear definition would be very much appreciated. When I'm battling in AS, I only have moves that do damage. Nothing else really makes sense to me... I was thinking about competitive battling, though, and I thought this might be a viable option...

Furret
-Double Team
-Follow Me

That's really all the farther I got... I think it would be good in a double battle if you sent it out with a wall... Just use Double Team until you can't anymore, then use Follow Me while you hit the opponents with Super Effective moves! I don't know if it's that grand, though... I really need help! And what is OU? Over Used? Is that a tier? And your Mamoswine moveset doesn't seem bad... I really don't know what I'm trying to accomplish! Probably the Battle Spot...

I said when I was new, but that was like ten years ago!
OU is overused, that standard tier, if your'e new you should start there. Go to Smogon and see the list, as Furret is bad in OU and Double Team is banned.
Entry hazards, particularly Stealth Rock, are expecially good support for offensive Pokemon as they enable them to achive more KOs. The question is, do you prefer offense or defense?

We (there's two of us on this account [sorry for the confusion]) mostly prefer offensive tactics. And are their tiers in the actual games?

Anything can win in-game, there are viability tiers but they aren't important.
As I said, if you go offensive use a Stealth Rock user, if you need something better on the defensive side run Heatran or Jirachi, or maybe even Tyranitar if your team can benefit from Sand Stream.

Okay. Thank you for helping the two of us out with this competitive stuff! We looked up the Smogon tiers... I think we can make it work! Thanks again!

If you're just picking up random battles against passer-by's tiers don't really matter, since people just use whatever they like (while other fill their teams with ubers Dx). If you want to have a lot of success, having a 6-OU pokemon team is generally the way to go. I'd say it's a good idea to start building OU teams and then try other things.

Also, Gourgeist is pretty good if you want to use it (I still haven't used one myself but it has neat typing and great defense). If you're going to use it I'd recommend you choose between the small and super formes (small has the best speed stat while super has the best HP stat). Make sure to have offensive pokes in your team that can take adventage of Gourgeist's deffense and resistances.

Gourgeist doesn't exactly have the best stats to be a tank, so it's better of just investing in its defenses/HP and keeping it as a physical wall + potential spinblocker. Which also means Gourgeist-Super is your best bet for a successful set. 252 HP/252 Def/4 Atk with an Impish nature is fine for you, however you can choose to invest in some Sp. Def as well. That said, walls usually favor support moves over offensive moves, and luckily Gourgeist has access to quite a few nice ones. As a wall, you want Gourgeist to be able to slowly gnaw away at HP, so moves like Will-O-Wisp, Toxic, or Leech Seed do the trick quite nicely. You also want at least some form of recovery on it, be it: Leech Seed (again), Synthesis, Pain Split, Sitrus Berry, or Leftovers. Gourgeist-Super is also a Pokemon that can work well in Trick Room, and it just so happens to be able to learn Trick Room. If you choose not to go with Trick Room, you can opt for a shenanigan-like move, the most viable one for Gourgeist being Destiny Bond. Finally, to avoid being Taunt bait, you want it to have at least one attacking move. I would recommend Foul Play to get more damage on boosting attackers/sweepers, but a physical STAB move works too.

So a sample set might look like this:

Gourgeist-Super @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Leech Seed
- Trick Room/Synthesis/Destiny Bond
- Foul Play
