I should have seen this coming. It's an election year, the Republicans are looking like morons. Bush once again grabs the big stick that has served him so well, fear. Some bastard posted as on a web site how to cause mass mayhem with suicide bombers at a sports event. And now we're back into the fear that made 2004 so enjoyable.

I would like to damn the son of a bitch who posted that shit to Hell before I continue. We don't need terrorists fucking with us right now. We've got enough problems with Iraq in civil war, New Orleans still in pieces, and Bush spying on us. Not to mention, Bush (being the security president and all) will attach to this like a leech and use it justify his spying on us and the other crap we're letting him get away with that would have gotten Clinton quartered.

And thing is, this isn't that big a deal. It's easy fixed. Granted sports arenas are easy to cause mayhem in, but it's also easy to keep the mayhem out. Arena tend to have one or two entrances that the fans come in. Simply put some bomb sniffing dogs at those entrances and check people as they file in and if someone is carrying a bomb, they'll be detected. Simple scanning devices could also be used search for explosives. A little bit of investment at each arena practically nullifies this threat.

Though, telling people that threats of terror could be easily and cheaply prevented isn't in the interest of the administration. That would mean people wouldn't be constantly worrying about terrorists and would start to concentrate on other things like the fact the manufacturing sector of the American economy continues to faulter under administration policies or how Republicans are abusing their positions for personal profit. It also wouldn't justify the war in Iraq which is costing us soldiers and money everyday or Bush's spying or torturing of prisoners. Bush wants the public to think all this crap is needed to protect them.

Anyway, discuss.

What I want discussed is the fact every time something minor as some idiot posting plans on the internet turns into a news story. As well as fighting the war on terror is actually a lot easier than the administration is making out to be. A little investment in actual homeland security could put many of the "plans" we've heard of to bed.

A. I agree with you on the "every little thing making the news" thing.

B. Fighting terror is NO WAY easy. If it were, we'd have solved it, or SOMEONE would have. Dogs aren't 100%. You don't even need to get INTO a stadium to cause mass destruction and death.

When it comes to Terrorism, an ounce of prevention = a pound of cure.

And I said practically. Nothing is 100% but it's better than running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Can we stop everything, no. Can we do something to minimize the problem, yes.

Of course there's more we can do, but you make it sound like we're doing TOO MUCH.

It's not that we're doing to much. It's that we're not doing the right things. I think the threats should be taken seriously but more emphasis should be put practical solutions rather than sensationalizing it.

Minimize the problem you say? Define problem.
One Human's terrorist is another Human's hero.

Also, seeking to end, sorry minimize, terrorism is impossible. When you've got types that consider becoming a human Voltorb (except for the death bit) as the path to salvation, you can't think on Human terms. I believe a Roman once said in the days of Christian Persecution in the Roman Empire:

"In the Blood of the Matyrs lie the Seeds of the Church"

In other words, squash one, you provide fuel for more.
Congradulations on being an optimist.

That's why you don't kill them or let them kill themselves. However, we don't get any plans, only things to fear. That's my issue with the "war on terror".

But how would you prevent someone from committing suicide to further his/her cause?

Catch them before hand. I'm not saying that actual part is easy. However, if the person does blow themself up, the damage would be less in the parking lot than in the stadium.
