Here's your new DS...

Wow, seems nice, but to me, it seems like an unessicary upgrade (besides the larger screen and easier Wifi)

Geez, this is what always happens to me...I finally buy a DS Lite (because my old DS cracked in half), and now something better comes out...

But anyway, this sounds pretty cool. If it can transfer data between Wii and DS, I hope it's more than just photos. I'd love to see the DS be able to play Virtual Console games.

That'd be awesome... VC games on DS? I mean, it has the power to run games with PS2-caliber graphics, right? Only problem I can think of is that it doesn't have enough buttons to run some N64 games, but things with simpler controls like Pokemon Snap could do alright.

Chances are I won't be having an opinion toward the camera-utilizing games they mentioned. I mean, if you have both hands on the buttons - which it's a handheld device so you probably will - how do you use the camera? If you only need one hand to use it, then does it really do anything the touch screen can't? =/

Game Boy Camera-type remake, anyone?

...That was the first thing that came to mind when I read 'digital camera included', anyway.

If this rumor turns out to be true I may have to put off finally getting a DS Lite.

So is it just a DS with a ton of extra features or an actual next-gen "upgrade"? And I want to know if they got rid of the GBA slot.

This doesn't really seem like Nintendo to throw in several sorta "unnecessary" upgrades like a media player and camera, I'm very suspicious at this point. I personally feel the Ds Lite is a pretty damn perfect hand held the way it is. The only upgrades I could ever ask for would be a larger screen (if possible), but then again I wouldn't want to make the unit larger than it is already. (Since if it was larger on the bottom screen as well, it would leave no room for controls, but the top they could still expand I suppose...) I would also like if they reinforced the hinge area on the unit itself, I've heard many stories and seen pictures were the Lites have broken there. I haven't had the experience myself but apparently it is a weak point. Its early at this point, but if this was the new Ds, I will definitely be keeping a hold of the Lite till the Ds after this one comes around.

And I want to know if they got rid of the GBA slot.

Oh, I pray that they keep it, it would be pretty silly to remove it since everyone I know plays GBA games on theres. Actually if they could make it were the games went all the way in, instead of sticking out a bit, that would be sweet.

Now we just need a DS printer.

Honestly...this is kind of interesting, if true. Not quite useful, but interesting. Would certainly result in a few more people picking up a DS. I'd definitely consider buying one if it made its way to US shores, since my DS is showing some wear and tear.

- To be released this year in Japan
This is where I'm most suspicious. There are only three months left in 2008. Would the gap between announcement and release really be that short amount of time?

Anyway, assuming it is real, it sounds cool but I'd be a bit P.O.ed since I just bought my DS Lite this summer. I'm also confued as to whether this is supposed to be a full-fledged DS2 or just DS v3.0. But I don't exactly believe in it right now, so whatever...

I would have preferred a tilt detector to a camera.

Remember that N's new policy is to announce things JUST before release? So they could sell those last few DS lites to an unaware public in the few months leading up to it.

This sounds like a DS v 3.0 rather than DS 2, though.

Yeah, really. Like I said before, there isn't much a camera could do that the touch screen can't, as far as motion controls go.

If it's real, I would buy it as soon as it came out. I've managed to break both my camera and my DS in the past year so merging them together should save me some money. This new device also makes me wonder how far the Nintendo DS will travel. Perhaps, in years to come, the DS will be able to play DVDs and it'll be able to connect to the internet. Technology advancements are great.

That said, it's more than likely going to turn out to be a hoax.

I remember in an article about 4 months back about this. They have removed the GBA slot to make room for a bigger screen. That made me buy a new one now instead of waiting for the next gen DS. It could be neat, but the extra slot doubles the replay value of the DS for me. I don't think I will be buying the new one.

I just bought a brand nw DS Lite. I don't want to upgrade again!
That said, I'll probably pick it up if it hits here in the States. I'd probably wait a bit for the price to drop before I considered getting it, though.

And I want to know if they got rid of the GBA slot.

Makes two of us. I've heard a few rumors that Nintendo has considered dropping the GBA slot. I really hope that they don't.

In Japan, there was a card that let the DS access television, and I'm pretty sure the DS-web browser even made it to the United States. Then again, I don't know about Europe, if that's where you are.

It would make them look like idiots if they did considering a lot of popular DS titles like Guitar Hero use the GBA slot.

Yeah, the Browser did make it here. Prime bought a copy to use at BotCon 2007 in lieu of a laptop, just to post e-mails, browse some of the fansites. Naturally, it's not exactly stuffed to the gills with memory, even after the expansion pak, so that's really all it's good for. (Turn the pictures off, it'll load faster.)

I'm guessing that the SD card thing is just so you can upload pictures from your DS Lite to the Wii?

Atleast this means the DS Lite will be cheaper, and now that they finally have cool colours in Canada....

....seriously though, if I were to get this new DS, I'm just going to be upset that its only one craptastic colour again in the begining. I <3 Metallic Silver and Cobalt Black DS Lite. Also Metallic Rose.

I'd rather the DS 3.0 have a feature where one can take a screenshot of the games and save it.
