I'm soft-resetting for a shiny Torchic in Sapphire and so far I got the Shiny poochyena once on the first ID. I saw a video where someone said getting the shiny was based on timing and depended on your "frames" and if you got the "shiny frame" another person said after every 500 or so soft-resets to get a new ID and keep doing that. Then this girl was button mashing and wound up getting hers so which way is best?

Lol what your friend was referring to was something called RNG. For 3rd Generation games frames advance by 60 every second. You'd have to know your ID AND SID (Secret ID) which is something you can't use without the use of an external device. Also if you're doing this on an actual cartridge, a lot more goes into the process and you'd have to make sure the BATTERY has run dry in order to hit a consistent seed. But at this point I'm rambling...

To keep it short if you really need help and are willing to do a little info hunting I'd be happy to help :)
 
Thank you so much and the battery did run dry. I'm still unsure of the whole ID resetting thing though. I haven't seen a shiny in years (besides that stupid Poochyena) and I really want one. I've Shiny Hunted in White 2 and never used a repel in the game, I did a 12 hour hunt and no avail. >.>

Yea I'm sorry about that haha. Thank you so much, just desperate to get a shiny. I watched shiny hunt videos and I was all "MAN I WANT ONE D:"

Awe thanks! I heard a bunch of different things about sr-ing so I'm wondering if what I heard are facts or just stupid. x)
