Something I felt had to be shared about a glitch that could change pokemon as we know it. Basicaly, If ditto transforms into a pokemon with Rage, uses Rage, then catches or KO the wild pokemion, Ditto keeps he copied moveset. It also works if Mimic is used to copy Transform in a double battle combo with a Smeargle teammate. Most 1st-3rd gen pokemon can be tutored Mimic, so essentally, most 1st-3rd gen pokemon have limitless movepools.

My reaction: Oh God!

(p.s. this isn't in the hg/ss section because it applies to pokemon games as a whole, not just hg/ss)

How to do the Mimic glitch
Mimic Glitch
-Your party needs a Ditto, Pokémon with Mimic (E/FR/LG has Mimic Move Tutor) and Pokémon with wanted moveset (I suggest getting Smeargle)
-Go to 2vs2 battle
-Let your Ditto use Transform
-After transforming, be sure your Mimicker is faster than Ditto and target your Mimic to Transformed Ditto
-Mimic copies the Transform
-Target Mimicked Transform into your Ditto
-On Dittos turn, switch Ditto to Pokémon which moveset do you want to get (Smeargle)
-After Trasforming, kill your Mimicking Pokémon
-Bring any Pokémon on front and win the match
-Now your Mimic Pokémon has forged all its previous moves and knows the moves of the Pokémon which you Transformed into.

Video (It's in japanese and is using D/P, But this works for english HG/SS) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDB279GyiYg

Only 3/4 of its movepool can be illegitimate if I remember correctly.

yes, but TMs/level up moves could replace Rage. Also, This can be used to breed, so Aqua Jet + Belly Drum Marril is possible

Interesting... I guess the song is wrong. Ditto is no longer used for se- oh no wait, he still will be.

This makes breeding all the more interesting...

But will the breeds be considered legal if you're abusing a glitch?

Come to think of it, Ditto's genderless so I don't think it will even pass moves.

You know all those Rare Candies and Masterballs people got from Missingno? Were they legit? No. People used them anyways.

It's an iffy decision. It doesn't need a hacking device, so it's legal, but it uses a bug, so it's illigal. Depends from person to person

Didn't Ditto used to have the Mimic Glitch awhile back? And the item clone glitch? Too bad those were removed from the English release. Hope this doesn't get removed by the time I get Heart Gold.

A Ditto I can use for Contests...

But those are items. You can't tell the difference between AR made items, cloned items, glitch obtained items, and legit items. This is a moveset which can be checked very easily.

I guess.

And yes, I found out Ditto will not pass down moves while breeding. I might want to do another check to be sure.

Ditto might not be able to pass down moves when breeding, but still n interesting glitch. I'm going to try and acquire a decently good move set for my Ditto and use it in a friendly non-competitive match against a fried of mine just to leave him saying "WTF?" when Ditto starts sweeping his team rather than transforming.

Ditto can pass down moves if the other parent is female. Ditto normally wouldn't be able to, due to it only being able to learn transform. However, since Ditto has moves that can pass down, and since it takes the male role in breedin, moves can be passed. The game mechanics didn't make Ditto as an exception to egg moves as he'd normally not be able to have/pass them. But now since Ditto can have/pass egg moves visa this glitch, all hell is released...

So it means it can pass 4 egg moves to a Pokémon, as long as they are in the said Pokémon "Egg Move Set"? And does that mean I could have a Tyranitar with Dragon Dance, Outrage, Iron Head and Pursuit for instance? If yes: O_O

yep. Belly Drum + Aqua Jet Azumarril shall rise!

But don't forget the Mimic part of this too. This allows almost any pokemon from gen1 to gen3 to copy any 3 moves (4 if count Rage) as a set.

For example:
Flareon
Swords Dance
Sacred Fire
Extremespeed
Outrage

Since Ditto can, this is now officially insane. Legitimacy checks are screwed over. Time to start making Pokemon with crazy overpowered movesets. :7up:

Ok, I need to go to bed. SACRED FIRE FLAREON? If this actually works I predict a metagame screw up, with tiers needing to be adjusted a lot (well, maybe not, but there are plenty of Pokémon without more potential due to their movepools)

Oh, this is gonna to blow up big time. Everyone will make awesome sets.
