For me, the GTS is one of the most important additions to the Pokemon franchises since the day/night system. Oh, and color. <.<
I've been wondering if there will be a Global Trade System in HG/SS. So far I haven't seen any footage of one, and I've always said if Google can't find it, it doesn't exist yet.
Now, I'm not one to make a single paragraph speculation thread with no thought or evidence behind it, so let's analyze both sides.
It's Likely Because...
~It was a huge step up for the series and a major advancement. Similarly, it'd be a large step backwards in functionality for it not to be included. It makes sense that they'd keep such an important feature with the game, rather than taking it away.
~People have become attached to the feature and may expect it at this point. They seem to be listening to the fans to a degree, what with the 'Pokemon-Follow-You' feature, or are at least conscious as to what the happy fans will want from the game.
~There are like, 400 of the things, you can't expect me to catch them all myself. Come on now.
On The Other Hand...
~ Nintendo would have to use twice as much in the way of resources to keep the service going for HG/SS simultaneously with D/P/Pt. Ish. I don't have numbers, but if one assumes the games sell well, which they will, you now have 5 games to GTS support instead of 3. That info has to go somewhere, and someone named Nintendo has to pay for it.
~The feature wasn't in the originals. Before you blow this bit off, remember that there wasn't a day/night cycle in FR/LG (I didn't play those but that's what a friend of mine reported.), which was true to the originals it was a remake of.
~ They could be returning with the Time Capsule feature, since chronologically HG/SS would come before D/P/Pt anyway. If this is the case, the expectation would be for you to use the GTS in D/P/Pt and then trade them over to HG/SS, where you would be receiving the HM-less trade from a 'time capsule' similar to how it worked between R/B/Y and G/S/C. What motivation would they have for this? Less coding perhaps. Or, more likely, that you'd then have to buy D/P/Pt along with HG/SS to get everything you want. We all know they like money, and a favorite way of getting it is making you buy multiple versions of a game. That's why there are always three, after all.
So yeah. I REALLY hope the GTS makes a return. It's made my life a helluva lot easier. Plus, it feels really good to be sending a little piece of your hard work across the world, trading and connecting with people internationally.
I don't see any site with information regarding this feature, but I'm on the lookout for it. If Nintendo/Gamefreak/Whoever wants to score some brownie points, this would be the way to go. Hint hint.
So now the part where I open it up to debate.
Based on this information and your own (which I have undoubtedly missed), do you think there will be a GTS? Do you personally like the system and hope it will return (as I assume there is someone crazy out there that absolutely hates it and respect that person's opinion)? What features could they add to it to make it better?
