Did anyone notice that HGSS' story was more about suicune than Ho-oh and Lugia. I mean, for Ho-oh and Lugia, you just get the bell, the wing, battle the kimimono girls and then catch Ho-oh/Lugia. But for Suicune, you chase it around the place, meeting it at burned tower, route 42, vermillion city and route 14 and finallly you see it at cerulean cape. You also see it at cianwood where you battle Eusine. Also in the intro for the games, when the 3 beasts hads are shown, Eusine slides down, unown push out raikou and entei, while suicune stays on the screen for a few seconds and the music goes quiet......

What do you think, is Ho-oh/Lugia more important in the story than Suicune?:argue:

YES! I'M JUST ASKING! IT JUST SEEMS AS THOUGH SUICUNE PLAYS A MUCH BIGGER ROLE IN THE STORY THAN THE VERSION MASCOTS! AND FOR YOUR INFO, I HAVE SOULSILVER, AND MY BROTHER HAS HEARTGOLD!

We now go back to your regular non-all caps letters!

Since the Crystal plot revolved around Suicune, and they took the Crystal plot and threw it into HGSS... and since the box legends never had much plto anyways (though the Kimono Girls were a nice upgrade)... yeah. It's pretty obvious.

I think you should have played the 2nd gen games to understand since they are 2nd gen remakes.

To add from Ryu's post. They actually did abit justice to Lugia and Ho-Oh seeing as they at least gave them abit more of a defined role in the game. But the thing with Ho-Oh and Lugia is they have more of a plot in the myth kinda way. Alot of the backstory and current state of Johto(and its customs) derive from the birds.

Oh..........................................
So Ho-oh and Lugia didn't have much plot in GS anyways....
But I'm saying, that despite the covers having Lugia and Ho-oh, and being based on crystal, Ho-oh/Lugia play little plot(while it is more than GS), while Suicune plays less plot than Crystal, more than GS and is caught Post-E4 so is not the version mascot despite playing a large role.

Considering that the random "meet Suicune" parts of HgSs was probably equal with the "meet Kimono girls" part, the fact you had to beat all of them in a row, and your whole journey started with some random egg that Mr. Pokemon specifically gave to you knowing you were worthy of passing the Kimono girl's test? Ho-Oh and Lugia win this time around.

HgSs puts more emphasis on the box legends this time around, though I consider the story to be more canon to Ho-Oh than to Lugia.

And I wouldn't call it a large role as you weren't even forced to play through that plot, unlike with Ho Oh and Lugia.

Well, true. And I agree, the plot fits better with Ho-oh than Lugia.

I fail to see how HGSS is more about Suicune when the plot was re-worked to make Lugia and Ho-Oh more important. Sure, it worked better for Ho-Oh than Lugia but still.

Ho-Oh and Lugia didn't have a single thing to do with the plot in GSC. They were just there. Why were they made the version mascots? Who knows. But it wasn't like nowadays where the plot (and the evil team's goal) revolves around the box legend. Back then, the legendary Pokemon had nothing to do with the plot in any way, shape or form. They expanded the mythology of the region, but didn't have any impact on the plot.

This changed in Crystal...slightly. Suicune was a subplot...more like an obligatory sidequest.

In HGSS, they actually gave Lugia/Ho-Oh a story and tied it in with the plot...kinda, and Suicune is still just one big sidequest.

These legends aren't Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza or Dialga/Palkia/Giratina. The game doesn't revolve around them and it doesn't have to (thank God). Just treat these legends as what they are, obligatory sidequests, not plot devices, and you'll get a better understanding of them.

Finally, someone else feels the same way!

Its cool. I seen how you were kinda getting ''picked on'' about the idea. I just found Suicune for the last time so I can catch it now. Im soft resetting it a bunch to try and get lucky with a shinie,to showcase how important it is :)

Exactly, the games have a Ho-Oh preference :p

Crystal, while Suicune centric revolved around Ho-Oh as well. Suicune was Ho-Oh's servant and was testing you and stood in front of Tin Tower. Ho-Oh itself wouldn't appear until the other beasts were captured.

Suicune-central indeed.

Side Fact 1: You need Ho-Oh to open a room in The Ruins of Alph, Lugia does nothing there.
Side Fact 2: Ho-Oh has a special held item, Lugia doesn't.
Side Fact 3: Finding Lugia is way harder than finding Ho-Oh. For Ho-Oh you have to navigate through a tower, not hard at all. You would also most likely have entered the Tin Tower before, just out of curiosity and you know that you can get further up once you have the Rainbow Wing, visiting the Whirl Island require that you have Whirlpool, Flash and ofc. Surf. And sorry most people wouldn't "just searching the islands out of curiosity" after getting lost there a couple of times. (This is mostly for GS, since you have to go there in SS)
