Welcome Omar
Do you battle or just play the regular game?
How many years do you have left in your studies?

Thanks everyone! Well thats what i was hoping to change by joining. I've been restricted to playing the regular game and havent hopped on the whole battle and the new features you could do with friends etc. so yea im hoping to battle and do everything so bare with me im new to a few things :p

I just finished second year medical school last May and starting 3rd year September 1st. I have 3 more years MBBS and an internship year left.

Again thanks everyone, it'll take a while to get to know you guys and your names but im having a great feeling about you :)

Hello there Omar, I've played R/B myself. Good games, those. Though I need to get back to playing them.

Yeah dude they are classics!
I am not so sure that I can agree in good conscience. They were in possession of graphics that were unimpressive to say the least. The balancing was....well......unbalanced. Too many types were overpowered and therefore the vast majority of the Pokemon to catch were useless in their entirety; so then why should I feel compelled to catch them all? Plus nowadays "catching them all" is next to impossible without spending large quantities of hard-earned currency and it is impossible to do on your own for all practical purposes. The battle system of R/B/Y lacked depth and was pretty generic for the time; I want something that challenges the status quo. The promotion of animal violence also cannot be ignored as most moral people would have certain qualms with that premise. The main game was far too easy to be compelling and the metagame was far too imbalanced to be truly enjoyable. I mean I like Pokemon, I really do, but you must admit that it is a fundamentally flawed franchise. It has gotten better in terms of the complexity of the battle system, although it's lost a lot of its charm along the way, but I feel I must reserve the label of "classic" for artistic and supremely influential masterworks like Call of Duty: Black Ops that have awe-inspiring graphics in addition to profound symbolic depth. Now that is the apotheosis of a timeless video game. Regardless, welcome to these hallowed forums, Omar. I am sure you will enjoy your stay and I do hope you will find what you are looking for.

I have to disagree with you. First these games came out last century.. so looking back at them now then yes they lacked A LOT from what's available and what we are seeing right now. Second CoD Black Ops is hardly a "classic" because it's barely 3 years old. If you're talking about a CoD classic then you should look back at the first 2 or 3 games which btw lacked A LOT compared to what we are seeing now from new CoD games. I don't know if you were old enough to play these games when they first came out but if you could (and whoever is reading) go back and try to remember how those games felt, how perfect we thought they were, how amazed on how our favourite TV show is now on our gameboys and we can catch pokemon and do whatever we want, how we still feel drawn to those games even after seeing these new intelligent masterpieces that are coming out. That's what I mean by "classics" it doesn't mean I think they have more quality than Ruby, Platinum, Black etc. I do agree however with the point you said about "losing it's charm".

So yeah, my friend R/B/Y are considered classics. Think of it as how people see the Corvette Stingray as a "classic" they aren't saying nah it's not and looking to the new technology filled, modernly designed Stingray to compare. I'm sure you get my point now :spin:

Thanks for the welcome mate and I am enjoying my stay so far :)
