Hello there everyone! I’m Bluelatios, also known as the new leader of Save Our Voice Actors. As a passionate Pokemon fan for about 13 years, I enjoy spending my free time watching the Pokemon anime and playing the games. My favorite Pokemon is Latios, as you might have guessed, and pretty much any Pokemon that’s cool and well-designed. Outside of Pokemon, I play every kind of Nintendo game system, along with all of their biggest games!

Some of you may or may not have seen the thread in the anime section that was closed promptly the other day regarding SOVA. You can be sure I’ve brought the matter to the board of appeals for review. I’m happy to be taking charge of SOVA’s movement to rise again as a reformed group of original dub-centered fans. My hope is that if all goes well with the appeal, we can put all our problems in the past. In reality, SOVA didn’t just try to change Pokemon, but as a side effect, changed the community. The vocal outburst not only raised TPCI’s awareness of their customers demand, but also raised our understanding of each other’s opinions. I know that in the long run, SOVA made a mess with creating hostility between fans of differing opinions. It makes me sad that some people felt hurt, angry, or rejected, and that personal bias got the best of some folks. I regret that SOVA disbanded leaving so much bitterness behind. But I really think that we can do better and fix this dilemma.

If the appeal does go well and SOVA reopens here, it is my personal goal to help this forum become a place where fans of any preference about Pokemon can enjoy themselves and feel accepted. No more elitism, mocking, judging, flaming, or confrontation between fans; this is bad for the fandom and leads to certain fans feeling left out. We should all feel free to discuss, and enjoy our favorite franchise how we like, without oppression from others. And you know what? If we want Pokemon to keep improving and getting better, there is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing our viewpoints to each other or TPCi. What is wrong is trying to make somebody else either bow to your way, or leave. So long as we strive to make sure we respect each other, nobody will get hurt over this whole business about SOVA again.
So that sums up what I’d like to see changing here and in other Pokemon communities. I plan to take this case to other forums in the near future. Thanks for hearing me out!

I know that I am serious about SOVA, but I'm really only this serious when I need to be, because I care so much about Pokemon and Pokemon fans. I’m a really friendly guy so come and chat with me, friend me, whatever you like! I may be here mainly for SOVA, but I’m glad to be part of the community nevertheless! :)

Greetings Bluelatios and Welcome to BMGf
PS: what is SOVA?

Welcome to the forums.
Sorry, but isn't it a bit late for SOVA? :/

It is never too late for TPCi to observe their customers and make changes to the anime based on our feedback.
Neither is it too late for us to appeal to TPCi again, in addition to mending the hostility between fans over the voice acting debate that started in 2006

Welcome to the forums, Bluelatios!
Good luck with rebooting SOVA!

@Bluelatios Welcome to the forums!^ 0 ^
Hmmm I agree with you, I do miss the old voice actors. Though I don't think they will bring back the old characters like Misty, Brock (well maybe Brock), May, Max, or Dawn. They might have special episodes (Like the Mirage Pokemon episode) but that's about it.; 0 ;
But I do like the idea of making Pokemon communities better.~ <3
I do think that we may have a chance to bring back some of the old voice actors (because I heard that when Veronica Taylor got re-casted she got emotional.D: I think Ash meant something special to her.:c I don't blame her, I feel the same).
But maybe not until the next generation or until near the very end (like what happened in the Battle Frontier).
Anyway, this brought back memories talking about the SOVA act (I almost said SOPA LOL.xD) again.:3 I remember I saw it as a kid, I was so angry they were going to replace the voice actors, but I was too young and didn't really know what I could do.xD LOL.
Anyway's good luck on you SOVA act!:3 You may not succeed for the BW Best Wishes series, but who know's, you may succeed for the new generation?:D
Anyway, good luck and have fun!:3

Hey, welcome to the forums (though you've been signed up for a while)!

SOVA, eh? You do realize that hardly anyone cares about the whole VA thing anymore? And the plus the chances of the old VAs coming back is practically nothing now.

You know, I believe its odd that people often use terms such as "impossible" and "extremely unlikely", whenever it comes to anime changes; especially aspects that were in place when Pokemon was the most popular. Its as if people are speaking for others and TPCi when they shouldn't. Why are people so quick to point out what they would or wouldn't do? Really, I'll bet most people say things like that because everyone else does. Ever heard the quote "A lie told often enough becomes the truth."~ Lenin? It's a terrible trap we humans fall into, like dominos that fall one after another. Even IF TPCi isn't paying enough attention to Pokemon fans (of all opinions), don't you think something like bringing the fandom to a balanced and vocal position might wake them up? Because that's what needs to happen, whether we fans convince TPCi what to do or not. So there you have it, I've shed further light on the issue at hand. I sincerely hope that we make the right choices, to all be heard through the masses, so TPCi will make the right changes for Pokemon. What are the right changes? Well that's up to all of us, the viewers, isn't it?

@Bluelatios

All your points are completely valid. But here's the thing:

We, watchers of the Pokémon anime since its early days, are no longer the target viewing audience of the anime today. For this reason alone, our opinions or desires for the anime mean absolutely nothing. The anime's purpose is mainly to advertise the franchise to all the new generations of kids, not entertain us, older fans. And putting that aside, you aren't even fighting for something that directly affects the anime as a whole. All you're fighting for is something that will only affect the English version of the anime. That also lessens the chances.

And then, you have to look at how long it has been since the VA change. 6 years. Can you guess how many new generations of kids must have come and started watching Pokémon during that time? What if their first season was DP or BW? They wouldn't care at all about the old VAs. And the number is only going to to continue increasing. In not too long, the new VAs will have voiced the characters longer than the original 4kids VAs as well.

Now, let's say that Veronica Taylor miraculously gets Ash's role back. Do you think that will do any good? No, it won't. The newer watchers of the anime will just get confused. And TPCi doesn't want that. They care about what the new target viewing audience thinks, not the people who have been watching since the original series.

So, yeah, it is incredibly unlikely that SOVA will result to anything permanent, the main reason being that older fans are no longer the target viewing audience of the anime.

Ah yes, but the "target audience" of kids is always changing isn't it? While kids do notice changes like the voices, they probably aren't as partial to them as we are. It wouldn't be confusing to make changes at certain intervals. Example; between new sagas. You also cannot disregard older fans either.

To quote an interview with one of the game developers;

"But to answer your question about the maturity level of Pokemon games, I counter with this - are hide-and-seek and jump rope just for kids? The answer is no - kids love those games, but adults learn more complicated and intensive games, and soon lose sight of the fun and joy of simple games. Even though concepts and ideas behind Pokemon seem complicated, the game is designed so that any gamer can pick it up and enjoy it. People tend to think that the anything that appeals to all ages is somewhat immature - fairy tales, for instance. Pokemon has become ageless and that is why many assume that it seems to be aimed at children."
(source; Pokemon Pokedex collectors edition (Prima's official Pokemon guide) by Eric Mylonas)

This idea resonates through all aspects of Pokemon, including the anime and its various dubs.
Pokemon is one of those magical, inspirational, unique anime series. That was why it was such a big deal back then, and why you hear people say things like "Pokemon was my childhood". From what I've seen and heard, Pokemon is difficult to really "outgrow". There are some who simply don't admit they're into it because of pressure from peers that claim Pokemon is only for kids.

Now put yourself in the producers position. Do kids today enjoy Black & White? Would they also enjoy say, season 1 if they had the opportunity to see it? If the answer is yes to both, now take a look at the more vocal fans, both young and old. What topics are often brought up to customer support about anime? We don't know for sure, but we can assume most of them come from either current viewers, or those interested in viewing. Along with discussion on forums such as BMGf, this is how they get ideas on how to ensure they have the most viewers, and how to keep them loyal. Keep in mind that a good number of teens and adults support Pokemon because they loved it as kids. Now I can only make an educated guess, but TPCi would probably make the most money if they appealed to loyal fans from all generations.

SOVA itself is merely a collaboration in order to convey our opinions more efficiently. We picked a goal to get the old voices back and we'll stick to it. However, I want you all to know that such collaborated efforts, not just by SOVA, don't need to be limited. Whose to say for sure bringing Veronica back won't help? Whose to say re-inventing old ideas won't improve the series? Whose to say Pokemon will continue its success many years into the future? The big picture here, is that we're calling to all fans who care about Pokemon enough to have a part in appealing to TPC/TPCi. They may or may not make their choices entirely in response to fan opinion, but they are listening. They've owned a giant and successful franchise for many years; its safe to assume that they're intelligent enough to listen to all their customers. Their understanding of all their fans is what will help lead to further success.

Right now, there is no comfortable outlet on major forums like this for those like-minded to myself, free of oppression and flaming. At least, not in America. I'm sorry for going off topic of introducing myself, but I feel it is necessary to bring these important topics to light again. I understand that I am human and need to constantly hear both sides and revise my position. I hope my words will help bring balance to the fandom, encourage people to take action, and have hope, no matter your opinion or background as a fan.

Right, well, good luck with that then. Though I'm telling you; hardly anyone cares about 'saving the old VAs' anymore.

Well, maybe not as many around here, nobody can really can't say for sure based on the total fanbase, since this hasn't been brought up in a while. Your entitled to your opinion though. Perhaps some might have a change of heart if things go well. In any case, I appreciate everyone's input and your free to ask me more questions anytime!

Another thing is, what's the point of old VA's returning when most old characters are gone? Ash, Jessie and James are the only 3 notable old characters left in the anime. As we know Maddie unfortunately passed away so Meowth no longer has a prior voice.

Team Rocket don't even appear in most episodes anymore and many believe this will be their final saga before being written off the show. All the characters introduced in DP and BW never had any 4kids voices (obviously), so there's nothing to do back to.

As said you're free to do what you want, but at this point of the series its rather late.
