About an hour or so ago I picked up my old pokemon red game and started playing it again however I noticed that when I evolve my Weedle into Kakuna at level 7 its not learning harden. Im training it just left of the second city in the game outside of the elite four area if that makes a difference. Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there anyway to resolve it? I saved it right before he turned into Kakuna and evolved it three times and each time it did not learn harden. Two of those times I evolved it to level 8 to see if it would learn harden then and it did not.

Well I just tested with my red and same result as you. I was searching sites at first but each one was saying different things.o_O
So I had to test.

Now this is only going by the one I trained just now. So my guess is either we both had the glitch or weedle evolved into Kakuna in red and blue version just can't learn harden.

To put it simply what confused me with the sites was some said it can and others said it can't. One was very specific and said it can't in red and blue versions. So yeah sorry if this isn't much help.=/

Thanks.

Thank you for actually bothering to test your game for me I dont think many people would do that. If more people with red and or blue would test that would be great to get so more feedback. Also can you tell me the site that said it cant in red and blue versions? Please and Thank you.

P.S. Now Im wondering if Kakuna will learn Confusion when it evolves into ButterFree at level 10 or if Caterpie will learn harden when it evolves into Kakuna at level 7 Im going to test it and it would be great if you tried those as well. =)

Actually don't you mean metapod to butterfree? Kankuna evloves into beedrill

I know Metapod and ButterFree are not on Weedils evolution line. I was just wondering if the same problem happens with them in red and blue.

Pokemon Red pwns! lol now that I got that out of the way, I don't think kakkuna learns harden if you evolve him but if you catch him as kakkuna he'll know harden. I know butterfree learns confusion around 14 or so but I'm fairly certain that beedrill doesn't. I'd double check but my batteries are dead, Sorry.

Beedrill definitely doesn't learn Confusion. Butterfree learns it at Level 10, not 14.

EDIT: Oops. According to Bulbapedia, Butterfree only learns Confusion at Level 10 in Yellow. In Red and Blue, it learns it at 12.

However, it does seem like Kakuna and Metapod should learn Harden at 7. Weird.

Hmm... I tried it, but accidentally skipped level 6 (that is, it leveled up twice in a battle) so I don't know if it evolves at that level.

That matters becouse if Kakuna evolved at level 6, it'd be then and only then when it learns harden. (I know becouse I have a tendency to stop evolutions, and sometimes I stop caterpie's so it evolves to metapod after it can learn harden)

So yeah... are you sure you didn't cancel it's evolution or anything?

I did

Yeah Im sure in my post when I started the thread I said I tried it three times. I also made sure not to press A more than I had to.

I broke it down a bit in the quote below but you can look for yourself on the site I linked. This is quoted on what it said under kakuna and harden.

Kakuna
Harden (Normal) - N/A (If caught in the wild, it doesn't learn Tackle
or String Shot. If obtained from evolving Weedle, it
won't learn Harden.)

Thanks Again.

Your very helpfull. I did however take the now Beedrill off of my team for good and put it in a box before switching it for a Dugtrio. Im currently using 7 pokemon and a pokemon for cut..

Geodude Lvl 36( At the Daycare)
Dugtrio Lvl 33 but I caught it at lvl 31 anyway.
Nidoking lvl 27
Nidoqueen lvl 27
Charmeleon lvl 30
Wartortle lvl 30 and
Fearow lvl 28
and a level 18 Oddish which Im currently using for Cut.

Any thoughts on the team? I have a Nidoqueen and a Nidoking for all the TMs they can learn namely Thunder and Icebeam and a couple of other hard hitting tms of different Elemental Types.
