Overview from Wikipedia said:
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni takes place during June 1983, at a fictional rural village called Hinamizawa (based on the village of Shirakawa, Gifu, a World Heritage Site)[12] [13], which has a population of approximately 2000. The main character, Keiichi Maebara, moves to Hinamizawa and befriends his new classmates Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, and Satoko Hojo. Keiichi joins their after-school club activities, which consist mostly of card and board games (and punishment games for the loser, usually him.) Hinamizawa appears to be a normal, peaceful, rural village to Keiichi. However, the tranquility abruptly ends after the annual Watanagashi Festival, a celebration to commemorate and give thanks to the local god, Oyashiro-sama. Keiichi learns that for the past four years, one person has been murdered and another has gone missing on the day of the Watanagashi Festival. Keiichi himself soon becomes implicated into the strange events surrounding the Watanagashi Festival and Oyashiro-sama. In each story arc, he or one of his friends become paranoid, and a crime is committed. Usually, the crime involves the murder of one of their own friends. While it seems impossible to tell their delusions apart from the mystery of Hinamizawa, slowly the truth is revealed.

By far one of my favorite anime series. I've never heard/read a plot like this before, it's just bizarre. xD There's a second season out right now in Japan, can't wait for the next episode! :D

It's based on a PC Game that has question and answer arcs. So there is a plot besides the overused: "Killer loli" xD -falls over- Um yeah there's Manga, Doujinshi, Drama CDs, and a PS2 game of Higurashi besides the PC games.

My favorite male character is Keiichi Maebara and favorite female is Rika Furude. ^^

It's a really awesome series and I was wondering if anyone else in this forum has seen/played it. xD

I tried reading summaries of the series and the conclusion to it made absolutely no sense to me.

Managing to surpass it's disturbing moments, I passed the first season!

Yes it's truly a wonderful anime. The answer arcs/second season has just been released recently.

I never played the games, however, unfortunately.

Well watching it seems better than just reading summaries, plus I guess you won't get it unless you've watched (or played the games) all of the episodes.

Episode 7 of Kai / Second Season just came out.

There will be 24 episodes If I remember correctly. ^^

*claps* Yeah..the disturbing moments were like wow. o-o Plus the DVDs are are uncensored.

YESH! Season 2 seems to surpass Season 1 so far. xD

Same, if only some company would license the game and translate it. ;o;

I doubt because it's "too violent"...or unless the dub version gets successful.

Have you seen how crappy the dub is? It was just too funny...

EVERYONE MUST BUY THE DVDS NOW! xD -shot-

Blah I'm used to their voices now..well all, but Rikas. >.< It's not cutesy enough.

I had to resort to the dub too sometimes. x_x

The subbing group I'm usually following are skimping on episodes </3

Awww. I'm following Otakon and sometimes Shinsen-Subs. xD First come first serve. -shot-

I really cant stand it, It has a nice plot, But im tired of watching scary movies with spinless stupid protaganists. its plauged the horror genre for way too long,

The DVD's are uncensored? USO DA!

With those games, since they're doujin games made by a small fan group (who, after having their game picked up for an anime, will probably be retiring now, the lucky bastards), it's pretty unlikely that they'll ever be picked up for an official english release. Plenty of groups are going around and working on fan translations though. I think the group that translated Tsukihime's game is going to be working on it, but don't quote me on that.

isn't there a PS2 port of the game? Being on a console, I imagine it's licensed.

Yup! Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri if I remember correctly.

"Nageki no Mori" was the opening theme I think. xD

OMG, anyone here the news about Higurashi Kai 12? So sad. ;o; I hope it actually airs..

I absolutely love this series! I've recently started to watch Higurashi kai.

Whoo! :D Another fan!

Man another crisis for Higurashi..Geneon's like dead so how will the dub come out~

I feel like throwing my shoe at Geneon, that's why I went out and bought the DVDs....
