has anybody out there written or attempted to write a history of the pokemon world?

that would be an interesting idea ... *runs off inspired to write a comprehensive Pokemon History ... :D

I have been thinking about this for a while. I always thought that Pokemon battling evolved out of a feudal tradition of dueling PokeLords.

If you search way back in this forum you should see some discussion on theories for history of the Pokemon World. It was one of the first things brought up when the forum (and as it was then, section) was created.

That's kind of like how it was in the 8th movie

really? I have only seen the first two movies.

@Cooper.

Spoilers ahead for the 8th movie, but it will help explain what GreatLiver said:

The 8th movie sort of explained the history of the Pokémon world. It wasn't detailed, though. It showed an evolutionary branch that started with Mew, then went on to talk about humans and Pokémon working together, and then showed the war. (I don't feel like getting into that; too long.)

The movie also mentioned that Pokéballs haven't always existed. It seems that before the invention of Pokéballs, Pokémon weren't captured. If they were, the movie didn't show the device used. (Actually, Lucario got sealed in a staff, but that was for protection, not capture.)

I haven't seen the movie but the technology of the staff sounds similar to that used by the civilisation of Pokemopolis.

You know, it seems very likely that the ancient sealing things (Aaron's staff, that giant Jigglypuff marker, the stone Pokeballs for the giant Claydol) were researched sometime in recent history and Pokeballs were created, probably based off the design of the giant Claydol's Pokeball. I'm not sure what the anime said, was Kurt's family the first to use modern-day Pokeballs? Anyway, they seem to have become mass-produced sometime recently (like say, 50 years?).

Of course that brings in the question of when and where in the world the GS Ball came from...

Yeah, before Pokeballs, Pokemon would probably just be walking around with their trainers, if those even existed before Pokeballs (which they probably would have, but probably on a more war or household chores thing than a sport thing).

Hmm... who created these sealing devices in the first place, I wonder...

I bet apricotes should be mentioned, I mean they are fairly important to the history of taming pokemon.

I bet if someone writes the history of the pokemon world, they will basically write something completely pointless and irrelevant to the pokemon themselves. I mean not often do animals get into history, besides mythology that is. I mean even though the pokemon world is much more focused on the concept of taming these creatures, it couldn't have made much of a difference as wild pokemon probably didn't get very strong until being trained by humans.

I would seek to explain how pokemon and humans came to coexist, and how the Pokemon League came into existence. I once tried to describe how the pokemon world was in the time that Prof. Oak was a young trainer. In the time of apricorns, when pokemon were still mostly a mystery. No computers, maybe even no TV. Most people say, however, that technology in the pokemon world progressed differently than it did on our world simply because of the presence of pokemon and mystical natural forces. That could be true as well. I don't think there is any single history of the pokemon world that would be agreed upon by everyone.

well, Serge and I have agreed to work on it. I'd like to post it here exclusively, actually. It will be very difficult and time-consuming, but I'm so over writing fics and this way I can still write about Pokemon. I'd like it to be comprehensive: the histories of the regions, the religions, the technology, the Leagues, etc.
