I've been thinking about this, and now that there will be OW sprites for all 493 pokemon I was wondering whether we'll see those sprites used for HM moves like Fly, rather than the generic black blob we usually see, as well as for perhaps moves like dig that have OW uses. Equally I can see GF being content to just rehash what we've seen before without feeling it necessary to update things in such a way.

Just seems like a big opportunity that wouldn't be difficult to implement any more.

My flygon better pop out of its ball for fly and my strength Pokemon better come out to help me.

You know, I never even considered this.

I gotta admit, this would be a pretty massive undertaking on Game Freak's part... but it would be awesome.

Well it really shouldn't be that hard now that we have the over world sprites. All they would really have to do is make your sprite either hop on to the Pokemon or have the sprite move in front of you to do the move.

When people mentioned that, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe when you use Strength, the one with the move replaces the one following you temporarily. Of course, this would mean the animations would be a PAIN for what should be simple moves like cut. In my opinion, the whole splash screen showing them and playing their cry thing is already too long.

I've wanted this from day 1!

"Why am I pushing the boulder? Shouldn't Machoke be doing that?"

This would be a very interesting feature.

If Nintendo implements this idea, your sprite and the Pokemon's sprite will probably switch places (your sprite follows the Pokemon's sprite) and you can control your Pokemon when using Strength.

Ah, and with the current coding, it would only be a simple sprite switch.

For Strength, that will be nice looking and easy for the programmers to do as it only needs to switch sprites places. Fly could work as well, but for Surf I have muy doubts, because the OW sprites for the Pokémon seem to be too little for the character to hop on them, even Steelix looked smaller (or at much, the same size) than Gold in those screenshots, so the only way I could see making your particular Pokémon swimming is if its sprie completely replaces that of the human character, similar to how it was in the first two generations, but that wouldn't allow you to fish in the water, and sacrificing a gameplay feature for the sake ofa a visual gimmick, I prefer the general blob for surfing. But the other ones can be done pretty well, ans I see them most likely to do happen.

It would be totally awesome but...
Since apparently all Pokémon are going to be able to walk with you imagine how much memory this game would need? Heck, any more and they might as well make it an iPod.

If they can make all the OW sprites, and all the extra areas shown on the map, I'm sure they could fit this in too.

In Gen III+IV, there were supposed to be a Pokemon's shape. In Gen III, it supposedly resembled Swellow (HM Slave is all I ever used it for, and only Fly at that) and Gen IV was Togekiss.

However, they were only one shape, instead of the shape of the pokemon we used. I never liked flying on Tropius when he looked like Swellow.

Oh really? The animaton goes so fast I never noticed the silouettes actually looked like real Pokémon. But why didn't they change the silouette in FRLG to match that of Pidgeot instead of Swellow?

because GF probably thought people were like you and didn't notice the forms.
