I was looking at the selected fan fics on the BMG website, and they are mostly by the mods and admins. I don't have a problem with that, but all of them are either Angst or have Dark in them, be it plain Dark, Dark Suspense, or Dark Fantasy. The only one slightly uplifting is the first one, but then again it's also part Angst.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. But I am asking for there to be equality. Please think of some uplifting fan fics to place on the main site. While there's nothing wrong with Angst or Dark stories, there's also nothing wrong with Action or Adventure or just plain Romance.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

So true, so true...

I would write an uplifting fic myself, but it's just not my style. Anything I write, I put my protagonists through the depths of hell and back. I'm terribly mean to my characters, really. All my fics are angst in one way or another, almost all of them end up becoming suicidal at one point or another. *shrugs* I think it's because I really can't think of anyone who hasn't had some sort of hellish period in their life, so it becomes natural for me to write about that period for all my characters. But that's just me...

Yeah...

Damian once commented that it must be the color scheme *g*.

But really, I have no idea. It could go back to the old saying "Dying is easy--comedy is hard."

Although, personally, I would have voted for Tater Tot's humor fic, but it was only open for completed fics.

I'm going to sticky this topic, I think it's interesting.

Ah, yes.

Ralph: How can one write a story about a guy trying to win at a disgraceful gym?

Jack: You call that a disgrace? Listen, pal. I lived in the same town as disgraceful for ten year, and nothing made me prouder than beating that little bastard.

Beth: Oh, great. Now we hear about the whole "Drak Past" thing. You were abused, tormented, and called a big loser as a child, so you ran away from home to avenge your parents' deaths, developing various martial arts skills and becoming one with your Pokemon.

Jack: ...actually, I went to Pallet and got a Charmander.

Beth: An actual starter? I must say I'm impressed.

Ralph: ...I can be impressive.

*Ralph summons the mighty Kyogre, who of late seems to be appearing in a lot of AAMRNS*

Beth: "Lord of the Unsmart Tower," anyone?

Jack: Unsmart isn't even a word!

Yes, indeed - it's mostly fics by the mods. That's because all the fics linked to on the main site must be posted in the library (archive), which is pretty much mod territory at present - few fics have been posted by non-mods, with one or two noticeable exception, and not all those fics are necessarily of a good enough level to warrant posting in the archive (well, that, plus we agreed on no more than two fics per author in the original batch of fics - something about keeping the volume down and making sure the mods didn't take up ALL the space).

Now then, most of us mods deal in angst and dark stuff, except Togepretty (whose "Baby Days" I'm planning to get added to the list now that it's up - it's lighthearted humor). As for the rest, most of the author who have posted their fics are represented, and as soon as more humor shows up, I'll be glad to upload it.

Just because I can't write good humor and trainer stuff doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. However, I'm not going to upload fics that aren't very good (IMHO) just to give a style representation in our selection of fics.

The best way to get more fics of the styles you like added is to find people who have written some (and completed them) and get them to post their fic in the archive :-).

It is odd that not many people are posting here. Back during the old BMG, this place was full to the brim with stories. Granted, most of them were not worth mentioning, but still. We've gotta find a way to liven this board up.

Perhaps a monthly fanfic contest? That went over well at the old BMG. Or what else? I don't know, guys.

Or what if you extended the offer to be on the main site to uncompleted fics as well? I can think of a few that deserve to be up there, namely either one of Pika-Zukin's fics, Eternal Winter or the tentatively-titled Fluffy Flannery. Seadra Reef's Wings of Hope is also excellent. I'd also suggest my fic, but that'd be shameless plugging, so I won't do that. Besides, I only have the Prologue up.

Well, that's about it, I guess.

The fanfiction contests in the last BMG went well for the first three or four. Then people lost interest. No one was voting and authors weren't writing anymore. To get a good fanfiction contest going, you need lots of highly talented authors, which unfortunately BMG doesn't have. And with Pokemon's popularity down, it doesn't look so good for more authors writing. The best way to keep this place going would be for more people to be replying to fictions, which motivates authors to write more, which creates more activity in general. That's all this place needs.

Actually, we're doing more than fairly well in the number of talented author - between you (Seadra Reef), Barb, Blackjack, Kurai, Pluvius, etc, we're certainly not lacking in the author department. That said, most said talentd authors either

A)Don'T have completed fics posted (hint, hint)
or
B)Are dark/angst writers. Which is why our archive is not doing that well.

It's more in the talented readers department that we are seriously lacking. BMG's just too small at present to have enough people around to do much reading.

Regarding contests, awards and the like, we'll eventually have those. But before panicking about the lack of members, I'd give us a little time for the main site to officialy open - and for more members to get in.

That, plus the situation is much better than some months ago when the pokestories board went ten days without a single reply.

Why, sankyuu, Rocky-san, for da nomination. ^.^

And regarding...

A) I'ma working! Things are busy at the moment.
B) I'd say "shoujo adventure" is about the opposite of dark/angst. I can do the angst, but it's usually paired with "said-character-introspecting-about-his/her-sexuality." That different enough? ^_^

Should contests commence, I would be most happy to do anything. Take my services, please! Uh. >_>

Sorry, I just don't think putting completed fanfics up there would work very well. The whole notion of the library is that its a place for people to find a variety of completed fanfics ; the list of fic on the site is like the "featured fics of the week" - we advertise a few fics we consider worth it from those in the library (note that the library forum IS the fanfiction archive for the site, which is not the case with this forum which is more for underway work et al).

That said, we'll probably add additional features to the fic library once the site actually opens up. I have an idea or two I want to tinker with, but that will have to wait until, as I said, the site is officialy open. And yes, some of those ideas may involve uncompleted fiction.
