Which region do you think had the better climate, better Pokémon, better gym leaders, better legendary Pokémon, better characters and better mythology?

Boy, you've just started a fan war.

You can't really say, as many Pokemon fans started at one of these games, nostalgia blinds them a lot. Hell, I'll admit I'm hella biased to Sinnoh.

Though both regions have flaws. Hoenn is overrun by water, while Sinnoh has lots of caves. If you think about it, the two are polar opposites. Hoenn is hot and tropical, while Sinnoh is cold and cavernous.

Climate? Personally, I think both are great region design wise, but Hoenn takes the cake there by a fraction because defined hot, open areas aren't common in Pokemon, while cold areas are a bit more common.

Mythology? Sinnoh. The legends felt as if they were actual living legends, as they had statues for them, people referencing them. They felt like powerful deities, and their control over stronger forces than past legends also helped.

Legendaries? Well, as well as above, it was the first game where other legends actually got some storyline importance. Uxie, Azelf and Mespirit were sought out by the evil team, had to be rescued. Rather than just being... There. Regigigas tied up the Regis nicely, and gave them explanation. Cresselia had a nice post-game plot. Its powers are explained, and it foreshadows an event Pokemon. Though I've got a bit of vengeance against it. Found it shiny once. It ran. -_- GOD ITSELF was nice, and the chance to express our gratitude thanks to an event hedgehog was great. Darkrai was nightmare fuel. LITERALLY.

Characters? Both didn't have the best compared to B/W/2, though I'd have to say Sinnoh. But to be fair, it was after Hoenn, so they probably realised they needed character development. Cyrus seemed like this threatening force, and since he lacked emotion, you never knew what the barstad was gonna do. Also, Honchkrow is smexy. Cynthia's hobby was interesting, as it fitted with the mythology filled region of Sinnoh. Volkner and Flint, as well as Roark and Byron were great. Friendship between characters was uncommon before then, so it was great and unique. And relations between Gym Leaders were great. Lisa/Tate shared a gym, and acted as one unit, not really as good as Father/Son. Though props to Hoenn for your father actually appearing. Hallelujah. (Spelt that by myself! Yay :D) Though I think even some Hoenn lovers could agree that Barry was far cooler than the cardboard cutouts known as Brendan/May and Wally(?). He could be douchy, yet kind at some times. Showing that a rival doesn't have to be a complete douchebag, but not the epitome of friendliness.

Just my opinion. Both were good and have their merits, but Sinnoh is my favorite region, so you know what I have to say.

@MidnightFennekin

Fan wars only start when you flame and bait which isn't what im doing.i simple made a poll to see what region that most bulbagardeners prefer.

I choose Sinnoh btw

What do you mean by Brendan and May were cardboard cutouts?

I'd personally have to say Sinnoh. I just.. I enjoyed Pearl more than I did Emerald.

FYI I played Emerald first, I'm not sure why I didn't like it... and to this day I still don't know why I don't like it.

I loved hoenn. Sinnoh was just meh for me. I think hoenn is better in every single category

Oh, yeah, that's inaccurate. Cardboard has more personality. :p

They basically acted like Blue if they took away the douche.

Yay! Sinnoh is winning!

Better Climate --> Sinnoh, the amount of water, rain and harsh sunlight in Hoenn was too much.
Better Characters --> Hoenn, I really liked Wally better than Barry due to his role in the games. The main rivals I like equally for both.
Better Mythology --> I like them equally.
Better Legendaries --> Hoenn, tough not to say Hoenn when many of my favorite legendaries (Latios, Latias, and Kyogre) were all from that region.
Better Plot --> I like them equally, two of my favorite plots of all the Pokemon games.

Sinnoh.

Simply for the reason that it is Sinnoh.

Personally, I enjoyed he plot, climate, characters and Pokémon much more in Sinnoh than any other Region.

Also the mythology, it was incredible, and the amount of Legendaries sort of amplified that.

i love both regions hoenn felt bigger and more of an adventure when exploring it, plus the legendary pokemon were awesome my favorite of all legendary pokemon being rayquaza emerald being my favorite game. but pearl was quite a good game to me to being the rd region i explored and the first time i had seen new evolution's to old pokemon. i remember the day the anime started for diamond and pearl and my excitement for the new game and i even remember knowing which starter i wanted to pick and did turtwig because of torterra but i wanted turtwig before i even knew its final evolution. sinnoh felt more story driven alittle bit. i rmeber this region and like it alot.

frankly i can't decide because both games hold good memories to me

I've always considered Emerald to be my favorite Pokémon game, and Hoenn to be my favorite region. The great legendaries, cool story(you have to admit the storm was pretty cool), The half-water and half-land region, Dive, weather patterns, sweet pokemon(especially pseudo), and two teams that faced against each other. Don't get me wrong, Sinnoh was great, I just thought that Hoenn had better cards on the table.

Hoenn, hands down.

The region is SO dynamic--forests, a desert, a volcano, beaches, a vast water subsection, constantly changing weather, and I'm probably missing a few other things. Each town and city has its own uniqueness and charm, and I actually get excited to explore the routes to see what secrets they are hiding. (Well, not now because I know all of them already, haha, but back when I first played the game.) I know people complain about the massive amount of Surfing that needs to be done in Hoenn, especially considering that these water routes and pretty much barren and only contain like four Pokémon, and these are all issues I have with the water routes, as well. But the other half of the region is simply too awesome for me not to like Hoenn.

My number one reason for disliking Sinnoh? Mt. Coronet. After my Rock Tunnel debacle back in Pokémon Red when I got lost in there for an hour (hey, I was seven or eight at the time), I've never been a fan of these regional caves. So leave it to DPP to literally take everything I dislike about these caves, put them all together, and make the whole thing even worse than I could imagine. Instead of a simple entrance and exit, are were, like, four or five ways to get in and out of that mountain. And since Mt. Coronet plays a significant role in the plot, I have to spend too much time in that mountain, which is especially annoying when I have to get to the Spear Pillar for plot purposes. (And iirc you can't Fly back to Spear Pillar either, so I never go back there--let's just say I never tried to capture Dialga & Palkia in Platinum!) Also, it's one thing to require the use of HMs to get through a cave--it's another thing when you need Rock Smash, Rock Climb, and DEFOG to get through a cave.

Seriously, Sinnoh overall is actually a great region, and the story in DPP is one of my favorites in the series. Unfortunately the positives of Sinnoh do not compensate enough for the atrocity that is Mt. Coronet. And obviously Hoenn has its flaws, but in my opinion the good parts more than make up for that.

So yeah, I don't hate Sinnoh, but I love Hoenn so much more.

I love(d) Hoenn, although the surfing part was a bit too much for my tast (damn you tentacool), but yeah, hoping they'll make a remake someday :)

I've gotta say Sinnoh, but I'm not entirely done with my Emerald version yet so my opinion might change...

Two words: secret bases.

Three words: Underground Secret Bases.
Which only appear when connected wirelessly with your friends, only exist for a meh flag capture minigame, and don't stay in your game after mixing records to battle your friends' current team once a day. Underground Secret Bases are crap.

Back on topic, it's a hard choice. Sinnoh has great mythology and a much better evil Team, plus it has its own array of variety and great locations, especially in Platinum. However, I overall prefer Hoenn. It is really damn diverse, I like the people in it as well, and a bit better overall, and the Pokémon selection is also way richer. Even the water part had its own charm and the Legendaries were also really astounding. It was my favorite region overall before Unova came along, so Hoenn it is.

Both are great regions, but I like Hoenn a bit better because the marshlands and deep snow in Sinnoh were a pain to travel through.
