Oh god, I was absolutely scared to the point of losing 8 hours of sleep (8 and a half to be exact) when I saw The Fourth Kind. I know it's not a good movie, but so help me god those alien exorcism scenes were fucking insane.

Requiem for a Dream. "Psychological thriller", my ass, this is a horror movie, and an extremely effective one at that. Don't go thinking that this movie throws things at you and goes "boo", though, 'cause if you ask me, that's not horror, it's just cheap and lazy. Requiem for a Dream does what scores of horror movies don't by depicting a real descent in morale and creating an atmosphere of sheer terror. The movie's relentless onslaught of negativity that never lets up is daunting, yes, but it's what first comes to mind when I think of horror, none of this ridiculous Texas Chainsaw Massacre garbage.

Everyone needs to watch The Conjuring. *clap clap*

Probably The Evil Dead (original) I still to this day think it's the scariest movie. Have seen the Exorcist a few times and it doesn't really scare me.

I watched five minutes of Grown Ups 2 I think that counts.

I thought the Conjuring was good, although it didn't really scare me. Then again, not much scares me these days, movie wise haha.

The last thing I saw that was pretty unnerving, was Hostel. If you're into messed up stuff and all that check it out.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), even though there is almost no blood, this is the scariest movie that I have ever seen. The gritty look of the movie makes it feel more realistic to me, it almost looks like a documentary. Leatherface is a scary villain, and the movie does a good job building tension in between his appearances. The dinner scene at the end is a descent into pure insanity, and still haunts me. It is still one of my favorite horror movies.

Top 5 (no particular order):
The Ring - The US release pretty much awakened me to Asian horror. Love it and Ringu
The Grudge - Another great one. That sound the ghost makes is pretty much the song of my nightmares
Hellraiser -Dark, gory, horrifying. This movie is so messed up and frightening. The book (Hellbound Heart) is fantastic as well
Alien - Pretty much the first horror film I watched and it stuck hard.
The Thing - I just love this damn movie. So tense that it puts me on the edge of my seat almost every time I see it.
Honorable mention: The Ceremony. I thought I'd mention this one just because I saw it recently but it's such a creative little satanic horror movie that's pretty much a one man show.

Does everything count? Cause really I'm a chicken by nature and cringe at the thought of scary movies.

Amityvillle Horror and the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre both terrified me. I'm kind of a big baby though, and just about anything with a jump scare will get me.

Totally agree with both of these posts xD

I've never been a fan of horror myself, it's and this is gonna sound stupid, scary, everyone around me is obsessed with horror and it's honestly annoying that they can't understand the fact that someone doesn't like to watch a dude kill 10 people over and over and over again or I don't know...whatever kind of things horror movies are making up these days.

A lot of movies scare me but they aren't usually in the horror genre. Except for Stephen King's It.

REC.

As a complete experience it isn't too scary but some scenes just caught me off guard... Especially the ending. Screw that ending.

Art of the Devil 2

Don't know why, but this thing really got me. I watched this movie recently, so it might just be my clouded judgement, but I'd still recommend this to anyone in search for a bit of a thrill.

There are certainly more horror movies that got me scared, mostly asian ones, but it'd be a right pain to list all of them. So I'm going with these two. c:

The Exorcist. Mostly because I was only 3 years old when that movie came out and my mother took me to see it in the Drive-In!! I had nightmares for YEARS after that!

Hmmm well I must admit it is a tie between Pet cemetary and The Shining tv miniseries from 1997 :) Those are just so creepy.

The first time I watched John Carpenter's The Thing at 8 years old I was scarred for a pretty long time. That movie just does things to the human body that should never be done. The newest one from 2012/2013 wasn't so bad, but the body horror is still there.

Despite it's so-so effects, Grave Encounters scared the metric fuckton out of me the first time. Could've done without the second one though.

Both V/H/S movies are pretty gnarly in a couple tapes.

There's also another movie I can't remember the name of, but in it the family dog comes through the door flap which was fine, had it not just been the dog's head. I almost died.
