Houston, Texas elects its first openly gay mayor.

That's pretty surprising, considering Texas is a red state.
 
Not really, Dallas came very close about electing a openly gay mayor back in 07. And as in close I mean it came to a run off, and he lost by a few points. His sexuality just wasn't a issue, and Texas especially in the big cities seem to be moving away from caring about sexuality.

State Ban =/= City Wide Election

Texas has alot and I do mean ALOT of small towns and cities especially and east and central Texas. That being said, just because people do not want gay marriage, does not mean that some one being gay will affect their vote.
 
Well, it just shows that people are actually starting to show signs of intelligence.
