How about a Pokemon RPG?

Okay, so I'm sure almost everybody has wanted an open-world Pokemon RPG for console or PC. So let's start a threat to talk about what would make the best Pokemon game EVAR :) I'm going to start with the basic outline of what I want...very badly, I may add x/

It will be something like the Sims meets the Elder Scrolls...it can be completely open like the Sims, or you can choose to be a trainer and have an open-ended mission like Elder Scrolls where each decision you make affects the ENTIRE game world.
All the regions are available. You choose where to start and unlock the rest, if you even want to leave your region.
You can interact with everything.
NO MORE HMs! You can use Pokemon with natural ability...I don't think you need to teach a Scyther to Cut -,- However, you can teach HM-like moves to Pokemon that might not naturally exhibit that behavior, like Surfing Snorlaxes.
You can not only Fly, but ride Ponytas or have dog sleds with Growlithes ;) Pokemon are 100% useful outside of battle.
You don't have to be a trainer...you can be a professor, police officer, Pokemon...veterinarian, maybe?, park ranger, farmer, breeder, move tutor, etc. and each occupation has different levels. For example, trainers can advance to be gym leaders, or take a different path and become the Champion. Trainers are more concerned with battles, while professors may be more concerned with collecting the different species. Everyone will have a niche.
This will be a more grown-up game so there will be a food chain! Farmers will have to protect their Miltanks from dangerous packs of Mightyenas, things like that.
Pokedex descriptions of Pokemon will be taken into serious account...a Houndoom will actually inflict permanent burns. Part of the challenge will be to try to find ways around such characteristics in battles and protect your Pokemon.
A main character that's actually customizable.
You can bee good or evil and the appearance of your Pokemon is determined by that...evil trainers will have mean-looking Pokemon. Good and evil will be determined by your actions; you can't pick right off the bat. So you actually can do something like join Team Rocket.

There's more for me, but I would like to leave it open to more nerd-fantasies. How would you build from that and make it better?

I love the idea of pokemon knowing HM's naturally. Not too keen on the srious pokedex descriptions as some are just ridiculous and I can't really see being police officers, farmers etc fun, but it could work maybe. A world the size of Skyrim would be amazing if it was fully explorable. But I really don'y understand why they haven't made a game like this, do they not relaise how much it wouls get people into pokemon. Surely it must be in the works.

If it had more of a feel similar to the anime I would definitely try it out, I really don't see this happening though.

Who says it won't really be Pokemon? There's different types of games like Pokemon Snap. The occupation thing is because when you reach a certain point in the regular games, what is there to do? It'd be great to have the option to have something else to do. I understand the old game nostalgia...I was nine when the very first one came out. But I kind of wish the games sort of grew with me, you know? Like there was something bigger and more open for grown-ups.

I think it's just too much for a Pokemon game. Nintendo games tend to be fairly simple, though that's so more people can enjoy them and not have to worry about complex functions. And the "choose your occupation" thing takes the focus off the Pokemon. The main series will always be about being a trainer.

I was also around for the first games, but I personally feel the games are fine as they are, they don't need to add something for adults. The target audience for Pokemon has and will probably always be young kids (mostly boys) around the ages of 8-11. Most teens and adults grow out of Pokemon, so it's just smart business to focus on bringing in new kids, rather than trying to keep older fans, most of whom probably don't care anymore. But I believe that in some way, form or fashion, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the Pokemon games unless those people have completely grown out of the series.

That's a fair point. I'm a writer (actual occupation, not hobby :p) so I guess it's something for me because I love games with creative freedom. To me, a person who has an entire fictional universe to write about herself, Pokemon is this whole world with all of these unique animals with so many abilities and there's just so much to it possibility-wise. I don't like being limited in the games I play, but I love Pokemon because of the wonder of the universe it's set in. I like to imagine each character and each creature as unique, living beings with lives outside of standing stationary on Route 14. When I was a kid I was always disappointed that the games talked so much about bonding with your Pokemon but I knew the game was limited to battling and collecting. You couldn't interact with your team as real living animals. The idea of such limitlessness appeals to me because it's part of my job (the creative writing part of it, anyway) to create limitless universes xD

I'm right there with you, including the occupation. I'd love to be allowed a looser reign with a lot of games, especially Pokemon, but I don't see it happening any time in the foreseeable future. Instead of focusing on what I wish would happen in a franchise or series I don't have the rights to, I channel my imagination into my own works, where everything will go how I want it, unless the story or pen says otherwise.

I know, that's what I normally do but a Pokemon RPG is what my hubby and I occasionally discuss on long car rides and we visited my mom not too long ago so I was thinking about it and I'd just re-discovered Bulbapedia and whatnot :p I love to expand on everything I encounter; I've been like that since I was a little kid. I guess that's why I'm in love with fiction writing; everything in my head is infinite. I can know everything xD But also I know how much goes into creating a whole other world. I mean, Pokemon isn't high fantasy with elves and whatnot. They're (almost) entirely unique. That intrigues me to no end. Why only collect and battle when these things aren't found anywhere else but the Pokemon universe? It seems like a waste to me because I have this whole world myself and the animals have a history and a food chain, they tie into the different cultures. I guess I kind of think Pokemon should be the same way, but you're right. I have no control over them. I just think there's so much more that the game creators could do with it that it drives me nuts...especially since the only games I really play are the Sims and Pokemon (since I can play them on the computer while I work and I can just let the sims autopilot and stop pressing buttons with Pokemon :p) If it's half of my entire gaming library then darn it there are things I would like to see done with it xD

This would be amazing! So much possibility! Imagine the expanse of land opening up before you, a custom character waiting for input! So amazing! Erhmagherd- Perkhemern!

What I especially find interesting is the "Pokemon" character option. Perhaps more to it than meets the eye. It would be interesting to see things through a Pokemon's eyes. (Don't lie: Mystery Dungeon isn't close enough) The battle system... Oh- the battle system would be totally revamped. A "real time" option- make a move or get beat down! Some type of dodge action is added to boost chances of a miss or reduced damage (due to only a graze and such)? Status ailments would cause cosmetic damage!!?!? It would be AWESOME!!!!!
