How about random merchants in the game?

It was something I thought of while playing the games.

Sometimes, we get to see NPCs that will sell you items/pokemons. Most notably the Magikarp man in Gen1 and 3, and the Ragecandybar man in Gen2 and 4. There's also a Lavacookie woman in Gen 3.

But how about we have actual merchants in the game? I'm talking about something like the Kecleon merchant in the Mystery Dungeon series. They appear in certain places with random items, and you can buy whatever you want as long as you have space in your bag, and enough money. Also, there's the secret floor operated by a Kirlia where you can buy emergency items and stuff.

Could we have the same thing in the main series? Like, how about an NPC who sells Lemonades on Route 121? Or someone who carries Thunderstones on Route 9? Of course, they would have limits in their stocks, so you can't just buy everything.

But yeah - I'm just saying. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you were stuck somewhere, running low on HP or PP, and there's a merchant with Hyper Potions and Ethers? Gen 5 have doctors/nurses stationed at good places, but hypothetically, let's just ignore them.

While most games already have some sort of merchants on certain Routes, I definitely think there is the potential to expand their role.

What I would really love to see is "wandering" merchants, who have a random chance of appearing on any Route. They could have rare or valuable items such as Heart Scales, Shards or berries, but their stock would be limited and the selection random as well. Some might also pack purchasable items such as vitamins or TMs, but at a reduced price. The catch of course is that you would have to find them first.

Now THIS sounds like a really good idea. XDD

Merchants and especially wandering merchants seems like such an excellent idea! :D It would feel more like a "journey" of sorts plus it'd be great for emergency situations. It'd be fun to find wandering merchants, too! I think the Doctors/Nurses schtick was definitely a step in the right direction.

I'm REALLY sure that there are merchants as you define them in the games already, so... :/

I think wandering merchants would be quite lovely. The fact that you'd actually have to go and find them, especially if they're carrying some of the rarer items, so to speak (such as elemental stones, for example), would be a motivation to go and buy from them.

I think this idea is great. In addition to items, I think trading with them would also be a great addition, that would be an assumption they had Pokémon.

I was thinking about a Kecleon-shop type deal as a way to let the player replace TMs they can't get anywhere else (in a world where TMs aren't infinite use, of course). Wandering merchants would be even more fun. Me like.

What I would quite like are merchants who specialise in selling cheap, rare items. Maybe a guy will randomly appear on a set number of routes each day and will have 3 kinds of evolution item sold at 1000 poke dollars. Each day the items sold are randomised based on a predetermined list of items to sell.

Perhaps the more you buy from the merchant, the availability of items increases. Say, if you buy one item each day for a week, he'll start asking what kind of items you want and will come back the next day with the requested item.

There should be more people like the guy in HGSS/GSC that sells cheap rare items that sell for a lot( like you can buy a Nugget for cheaper and sell it for more cash when you're running low) Id like to see them selling more rare items like Evolution Items. There could be merchants that travel around and in each place they sell rare items that are different. As long as you had the money you could buy them, I like that idea a lot. Of course you could also go to the Pokemon Center( in Gen 5) or the Pokemart or Department Store for more of a selection.

I like the idea of a wandering merchant. It's a lot less vexing than looking for evolutionary stones in dust clouds while still maintaining a challenge. Now where's a GameFreak representative when you need one?

I wouldn't mind merchants, as long as they are in reasonable places. I think it would cut the fun if merchants popped up everywhere.

Wandering guys should be walking about like how you catch a guy so he can sell a shop on join avenue ( BW2)
