Have you noticed that most of the new Pokemon are soft and cute?I mean, look back at RED,ninetails and eevee were the only 'cute' Pokemon. And look at Diamond and Pearl-the Pokemon are cuddly and sweet rather than tough.I've also noticed that a great deal of recent monsters bear a huge resemblence to animals.Would you have known that Torchic was a Pokemon apart from its colour? No.I think nintendo should go back to putting a bit more imagination into creating Pokemon. What do you think?

ya ideas are getting worse and worse every generation pokemon should stop at one point too many unimaginative pokemon would suck

look at arceus it is really horribly drawn compared to other legends like
ho-oh lugia mew articuno moltres zapdos

Heheh. I suspect this might be a matter of personal prejudice, because as somebody who likes 'cute' Pokémon, it's seemed to me that they're getting less cute. The last generation contained a whole bunch of legendaries (generally not cute) and evolutions from prior generations (generally also big and ugly). In addition, I've found that the starters are getting progressively less cute to my eyes...

It's also not fair to say that the first generation had few cute Pokémon. What about the starters? What about Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Clefairy and Chansey? What about Butterfree, Seel, Ditto and Mew? While it's true that Pokémon tend to get less cute as they evolve, there's a heap of cuteness in the first generation.

There is, and always has been, a sore lack of cute Pokémon that are useable... they're either not fully evolved or have horrible stats (Delcatty springs to mind...). Then again, it's really my fault for insisting on using pretty Pokémon only. And, well, Machamp. Machamp just amuses me for some reason.

I'm also not certain that Pokémon are more literal adaptations of animals than they used to be... While the early gens had some 'out there' ideas, you still had Tauros, Seel, Stantler, Persian and so on, which looked like realistic animals with one or two extras. It might be true, however, that more Pokémon are inspired by specific animals than before... but I'm a zoology nerd, so I love it that we have Pokémon inspired by coelocanths, bagworms, coral and even clione.

I will agree with the core of your argument - that the last generation was disappointing. I'm agreeing for a different reason, though - because Gen 4 was full of legendaries and additions to old families, neither of which interested me. Most of my favourite designs are actually in Gen 3, so I wouldn't say there's a decline... there just wasn't enough variety in Gen 4 for me, because of what they chose to include.

What we need above all is variety. That way I can have my cute Pokémon, and others can have their tough ones. Speaking of which, Ma-Ma-Ma-Mawile, I happen to believe Mawile is the cutest Pokémon ever created... >.>

I think most of the good cute Pokemon were from Generation 1 and 2.
Pikachu? Growlithe? Squirtle and Charmander? Caterpi? Pidgey? I could really just list off nearly every basic Pokemon. Sandshrew?
Put more thought into your arguments. Or use proper english.
One of the two.

one, put the subject in the title, not who agrees with me.
two, Tangrowth, Regigigas, Yanmega, Magmortar, Electrivire send their love.

Um... yeah. I think it's pretty balanced. Gen III and IV have it's fair share of non-cute pokemon.

Lol, it's not even "Who Agrees With me?"

In fact, they have more ugly ones!
A lot of people don't like the fact that Johto had so many cutesy, useless Pokemon. Things like Pichu. I mean... The baby Pokemon introduction!

Argghh, these kinds of topics make me rage.

It's always the same arguments. 'The pokemon look less like real animals!!!' 'The pokemon look like digimon lol!!!' (I hate this one. Compare your typical legendary pokemon to a belts-and-zippers-and-wings-infested digimon)

Now it's 'the pokemon look too much like animals!'

Are you for reals? If you refuse to accept anything other than Ditto or Dugtrio or Electrode as the pinnacle of monster design, that's fine, but at least let us enjoy our favorites.

I don't like the path that the design has gone down either, but cute isn't my issue. I just things like Infernape look really dumb, unoriginal and like DIGIMON.
Seriously, when I first say Infernape I thought that I'd seen that Digimon some where.
It's mainly the final base ideas I don't like though.

And in my opinion, Mewtwo and Charizard at the pinnacle of final evo monster design.

Infernape looks dumb, i will give you that. i wanted a giant ape also.
course its only un original if its been done before? linkage?
how is a cat like thing the pinnacle of evo monster design? and what of Tyranitar? Salamance, who does the dragon thing BETTER than charizard.

If I worked for Nintendo I'd at least 'try' to make some decent looking Pokemon.I mean look at the 'edited' sprites people have made with a load of different Pokemon-they are so much better!

link to these better sprites. if you are going to say something is better, have proof.

I'll tell you something-the only reason Nintendo are making G&S remakes is because,of course, they've run out of ideas.

I don't really think this thread was supposed to be an interesting discussion on pokeymans design so much as 'rage against Gamefreak' now. That's basically all I have to say. :(

No, I hadn't actually seen it as a Digimon, it just looked so much like something you'd see in Digimon that I thought I had seen one. But I'm sure they've done some kind of fire-monkeyish thing.

And Mewtwo is barely cat-like and you have to admit it! It's hardly feline at all, it's just so unlike any real animal, same for Mew, that people could kind of associate Mew with cats, and by extension they did the same with Mewtwo.
Don't even mention Salamence, he's just Dragonite 2.0 and nothing else.
He's one of my least favourite pseudo-legendaries. In every regard.

EDIT:

Fail. Those aren't even close to any standard of the way that Pokemon look.
They're as unfitting as Tangrowth or Lickilicky.
Okay, screw it, I abandon all my views and completely join DCM's side.

Mawile, you're really just being whiny and wrong now.
Doing remakes doesn't mean they've run out of ideas. They made remakes of the original games, and everybody was demanding remakes of GSC.
And to make matters worse, you can't seem to grasp the fact the punctuation is, in fact, allowed to touch a space.
