How good is your understanding of the Japanese language? Tell everyone in this thread!

Me? I've memorized hiragana and katakana (all of it), but grammar and kanji are giving me serious trouble.

I'm terrible. That's why I have a translator built into Firefox.

I know what Japanese 101 and 102 has taught me for the most part. As well as some stuff I taught to myself in HS. xD Which is the following:

-Hiragana/Katakana
-Basic Kanji (about 1st-3rd grade level)
-Formal tense
-Te form
-Informal tense
-Elementary grammar

I can, in general, hold a conversation about daily life related things and be able to respond for the most part.
I'm trying to find my way of "talking" so-to-speak though. :3 Don't have to sound uber polite all the time. xD

Kinda same.. But you are better as you know Katakana.. I haven't start memorizing that yet.. XP

So far, I know all the Hiragana and Katakana, and I'm learning Kanji now. (about 200 or so...1st grade, maybe) I also know basic grammar.

learned all of the vowels, honorifics, and pronunciations, now learning hiragana

I know how to pronounce, some super, super basic grammar, a few words, common honorifics, and am memorizing hiragana and katakana.

And after that I have to move on to verbs.

In other words, basically nothing.

I'm proud of myself that I was born into Japanese family... I'm just 7 years old so not good as Hiroshi, or Master Random. :p

I only know a few katakana, and a bunch of words... But I'll try to learn more by myself, and I'm planning to take Japanese classes if I get into university.

I'm an American who knows alittle of Japanese. Not alot. Alittle.

I know katakana, some hànzì signs (mostly simplified but still some are resembling the traditional that hancha and kanji are using). Basic knowledge about the grammar structure, very poor vocabulary. I hope quite good pronunciation.

I've taken Japanese in college, which has really helped me with learning the language. It's one thing to learn it on your own (which I basically did in high school), but to actually have a Japanese sensee is really rewarding, especially when it comes to things like intonation and accent when speaking.

Right now, I'm about to go into my 300-level classes, and was invited to study in Osaka for the summer to take some more classes there. (n_n)

I wouldn't say I'm fluent, or even conversational, but I'd like to think I know enough to at least ask where the bathroom is in a Tokyo restaurant. You're bound to pick up at least that much after being an otaku from the age of five and studying two different Japanese martial arts.

My roommate is a HARDCORE otaku so he's fluent (or nearly fluent... he has Japanese and English copies of most of his rather large manga collection and he watches most of his anime without subs unless I'm watching with him) in Japanese. He's taught me a bit (a few basic words and phrases) but that's about it.

Thanks to one of my fellow members here, I can speak some Japanese:
1 - Ichi
2 - Ni
3 - San
4 - Shi
5 - Go
6 - Roku
7 - Nana
8 - Hachi
9 - Kyuu
10 - Jyuu
Red - Akai
Orange - Orenji
Yellow - Kiiro
Green - Midori
Blue - Aoi
Purple - Murasakiiro
White - Shiro
Black - Kuroi
Pink - Pinku
Good Morning - Ohayou
Good Afternoon - Konnichiwa
Good Evening - Konbanwa
I do not speak Japanese - Nihongo O Hanashimasen

That post on the Japanese Language Help Thread helped me quite a bit, too.

Quite poorly. I think I can still romanize katakana, and I still know a word or two, but absolutely nothing otherwise.

All I know is a few words picked up from watching anime. I did memorise the hiragana, but I've mostly forgotten them again...
