Or do they get some kind of cash for winning battles like they do in the game? of course we haven't seen Ash winning cash but it could happen, depending on the trainer. There's pokemon centers but there not everywhere, plus we've seen Ash & Co. eating from actual restaurants, which brings me to the question of how they can afford it? Not to mention the cost of pokemon supplies, food, medicine, etc.Unless they just phone there parents for cash everytime they need it...

Scholarship from Oak, finding nuggets, Brock's black breeding market, Pikachu practising the arts of wallet snatching, not getting a new change of clothes ever since they left home, I could go on...

As far as the younger trainers like Ash go, I always assumed that they were just getting an allowance wired to them from back home or something. It makes the most sense.

.....what?
Merely a possibility at the moment. Fill up the pokedex, get a share of the science funds, promote the Oak trademark by becoming the best trainer there ever waaaaaaaas

But old man Oak may very well keep his assets unshared. Give the guy a Pikachu, then he's in debt for life!

Umm what?????
Prof. Oak isn't really a school professor you know right? He cannot give out some Diplomas or something, especially in Pokemon. Plus we have no idea how the education system is run in the Pokemon world. But I think you were just being sarcastic...

:sweat:right?

They leave home with about 300 PokeYen to their name, right? Assuming PokeYen is equal to real-life Yen, that's only 3 dollars. D: Was it 3000 PokeYen? That's only about 33 dollars then, but still isn't a lot. I can only conclude that they hopefully save up money they earn winning battles and whatnot. And of course, they can turn to their mother if they seriously need cash pronto.

They can also probably eat at their mother's house at the beginning, and maybe Pokemon Centers provide food for hungry trainers as well as services for Pokemon.

In animeverse he was a teacher at one point, since Spencer was one of his students (and I think Delia was as well). I know some promotional materials connect him with Celadon University.

Anyway, to the topic as a whole, probably money from parents...I know Ono's comic had the group doing odd jobs from time to time.

Your point being?

On topic:
They all get money from their parents/guardians when they leave for the journey and their parents probably ship them money too. They could also win money from contests, gyms, or even regular battles but off screen or something.

they get money from beating trainers. If you can afford all the money for potions etc. you can also buy food. And in the Anime food is free in pokécenters, so maybe that's also the case in the games.

My guess would be that young trainers are somewhat provided for by Pokecenters. Food and lodging, basic supplies, etc. Essentially, their travels with their Pokemon seem to be the world's replacement for an education system - So, probably handled by the government.

Thus, trainers can stop into a Pokecenter, get some food, water, other supplies... But it's all just basic stuff. Trainers who win battles get money in the games, so that probably goes towards both training aids like Potions and such, but also towards things like better food, drinks, lodging... Beyond what you get normally.

For all we know, the Pokemon Dollars might not even be the standard currency, but just a currency used by trainers and thus accepted by places that relate to trainers.

You don't have to be a school professor to give out a scholarship or grants :/

this.

I always thought that if they needed money (For what?) Brock could provide it, being a Gym Leader his family is probably rich.

That makes a lot of sense. Good job! :) The basic needs are provided for free while money is used for better goods.

but the ? is where does the money for better goods come from ?

i think there parents sends it to them

& those with out alot of money would relie on the pokecenter/government like Darkfox190 said

my guess is that ash does win money from battleing they just don't show it because they don't feel like it's important. or for some other reason maybe becuase they feel like it would make ash seem mercenary?

I always thought that licensed pokemon trainers recieved some sort of stipend allowance from the league. Pokemon center fees are waived meaning that they are free.
