When I say "cheaply made", I mean most games that are based off of shows or movies. A few examples:

I personally think Nintendo and other publishers should do a better job of limiting these types of games from being released for their systems. I was just looking up a list of Wii games and a majority of games listed are cheaply developed games like the ones above. I was hoping this wouldn't happen to the 3DS or Wii U library, but I guess it's inevitable.

Hm, I think they're a decent way to get a kid who's never played a video game before interested in them. My first two video games I ever owned were games like the ones you have listed. Otherwise, I couldn't care less about them. People are gonna try to make money, and low-quality, movie-based video games have been made for almost as long as video games were a thing.

Kill me. KILL ME NOW.

As a child I liked some of them but as I grew up I became aware of quality. Now I don't think I have any cheaply made games as I sold all my crap ones.

It's a great way to advertise, but I'm usually not a fan of games that are based off TV shows or movies myself. But from what I see with some titles they aren't as pricey as a normal game can be like "Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW!" is $15 on Gamestop's website, and on Amazon. Versus games like "Fire Emblem: Awakening" which are roughly $40.

And will say when I was younger I thought "Rugrats: Search for Reptar" was the amazing, so I do agree that games based off shows/movies are a great way to get kids into games. Plus I'm sure it's fun for most kids to see and control characters they love in a game.

So I like them, I mean I don't have to buy them if I don't want to but I like that they add diversity to the games that are out there.

'Twas ever thus, you've only got to watch a few AVGN videos about Ljn games to see that. As soon as someone in the finance department cottons on that they have a hit on their hands & children will buy/get their parents to buy anything associated with their current favourite characters. It's just another form of marketing, like cheap fast food toys.

TV show and movie games used to be good. During the NES and SNES days, Capcom released numerous games based off of what was shown on Disney Afternoon, and they were fun! I really enjoyed Ducktales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Bonkers, Aladdin, and The Lion King. Then again, I grew up in a time when video games weren't as detailed and as expensive to make as they are today. Come to think of it, I don't think the 90s was immune from bad movie games. There was also a lot of garbage made. They had a game based on terrible movies like Cool World. COOL WORLD! COOL WORLD! While I loved Home Alone, the game was awful!

Today, your average Pixar and Dreamworks game looks very cheap, and I don't know what's on television that would be made into video games nowadays. As previously mentioned in this thread, they are great for children and I can imagine they would be fun to play at a young age. I'm pretty sure that's what the designers of these games were going for anyways. Though if they are rushed to the point of glitchiness, that isn't cool.

I want to make an Atari E.T. joke, but that's too obvious.

To be honest... I don't care. They're good for getting kids to buy the stuff. So long as you don't play it, it is of no concern. I, however, still wouldn't consider them "real" games.

Yeah I don't give games like that a second glance. I suppose for young kids they are ok though. At that age when games like Phoenix Wright are too complex for them. No matter what the console there will always be cheaply designed, indie titles. I don't have a problem with them. There are plenty of best selling games which I dislike more.

As a child I bought and played games like this, they're a waste of time for both the developers and the consumers.

They're poorly made and expensive. I'd want my kid to play something well done like Mario or Sonic.

Personally, I'm not opposed to this idea. I have a number of licensed games, but I haven't been buying many as of late because they've been going downhill. It all depends on the game.

Not all licensed games are bad, though. The Hamtaro games were actually pretty fun. The recent South Park game (The Stick of Truth) is pretty good. I played it at a friend's house. (I don't own a copy since my parents won't let me buy South Park-related stuff.) And to be fair, the games you listed are specifically for young kids, so of course people our age aren't going to be playing them.
