How do you feel about Mega Evolutions in the Anime?

While I like the concept in the game and the designs of a lot Mega Evolutions, I feel like how they were adapted to the anime was handled horribly. In the anime, mostly toward the end when Ash-Greninja became a thing, they pretty much made every battle end in the same way. The end of every important battle since then has been decided by the Mega Evolution. And it made them incredibly boring. What's the point of having the rest of the Pokémon have a hand in the battle if it's just going to be decided by the Mega Evolutions toward the end? I think most of this problem could have been resolved if they hadn't have been treated as such an unstoppable force, and could have been returned during the battle (which to my memory hasn't happened in the anime). Then they could have just been a strong Pokémon instead of the Trump card that decides almost every single battle that they're in.

Mega Evolutions turned out to be a bit overpowered, more so than in the games honestly. Some Mega Pokemon can be OHKO'd, yet it takes dozens to take down a Mega in the anime. I know the anime follows different rules, but the anime kind of over exaggerates the strength of some Megas, namely Mega Charizard X

It started out alright, but I felt that it got too inexplicably common later on with Trevor and Sawyer basically pulling Key Stones out of their backsides.

My issues started with Wulfric's Mega Abomasnow. The Abomasnow who Hawlucha demolished with little effort somehow holding its own against Ash-Greninja? No. I'm fully convinced that he has two separate Abomasnow. It also detracted from the thing Ash was previously struggling with: Avalugg's Ice Body. After seeing Ash overcome Fantina's Hypnosis, Grant's Rock Tomb, Clemont's Electric Terrain, Valerie's Trick Room, and Olympia's Future Sight, witnessing Mega Abomasnow deprieve me of the chance to see how Ash stopped Ice Body was infuriating.

I agree. The anime initially treated it like a rare occurrence that not everyone was able to obtain or even master (which I preferred). Then inexplicably, it seemed like anyone could get both a Key and Mega Stone with Korrina being the only person to struggle with such a powers possible side effects. I feel like this undermined the uniqueness of the phenomena; ex. "if everyone is special, then no one is."I also didn't like the portrayal of a Mega only being beaten by a Mega-it would have been nice to see more representation of non Mega Pokemon defeating their powered up counterparts. I believe we only saw that with Pikachu vs Mega Lucario and Hawlucha vs Mega Absol (if you don't consider Greninja's transformation a variation of Mega Evolving)?

To be honest, I was very surprised when Tierno wasn't shown with a Mega Blastoise given the apparent availability of the stones.

Yeah, this is one of my issues with how the anime handled Megas. I talked about it earlier in a preview thread about Ash vs Astrid.

I'm glad Megas were treated as something super powerful and rare, but difficult to master. It's a strong power up that could only be used by those who were both extremely dedicated, and had a close bond with their Pokemon. They could get ridiculous at times, sure, but that strength is what made them (and the trainers) so interesting. Even Ash, who had Ash-Greninja, had an arc about mastering the power.

But then they just slapped it onto Weed Kid and Trevor at the last minute with little explanation or struggle, even though they were both newbie trainers whose mega Pokemon only recently evolved. Astrid's Absol is demolished as an afterthought. So all that work they spent building it up kind of felt ruined. At least it helped build up Sawyer?

I have to hand it to the anime, though. Everything aside, they made Mega Evolution much more impressive than the games did. XY(Z) in general's been good at fleshing out things from the games.

How are they handled horribly, lost of Mega Evolved Pokemon have lost, like Korrina's Lucario, Astrid's Absol, Remo's Garchoo and Wulfric's Abomasnow.

Tbh I simply hate the concept so I was never going to be a fan of the anime variant. I just feel that these super duper amazing undefeatable monsters undermine the very foundations of the pokemon anime i.e. the underdog can win. As mentioned above, we have seen very few megas being KO'd by non-megas (Satoshi-Geckouga is not a mega in name only) and that for me makes the game inherently unfair.

I felt was underused, then overused.

Note that we saw Mega-Evo movies, specials and even shorts more than we did in the TV show. At first it was okay, as they seem to save it for special occasions and guest characters. And to be fair, I never expected or even wanted all of them to appear in the show anyway.

But then we went for a really long time without any...then Ash-Greninja came along and suddenly they popped up quite a bit. The problem there is that they suddenly became overpowered (MC-X, Sceptile), not powerful enough (MC-Y, Garchomp, Absol, Lucario), and even in an uncomfy grey area (Gardevoir, Abomasnow).

I'm very concerned about what will happen with Mega-Gyarados in the TF finale...:cautious:

As I story, there is some points that I liked from it, but I still think that they did made it still need more works in it

they could have used them in the first battle or in the middle... they would need to make in the games moves and abilities that can nulify megaevos or show regular pokemon with abilities and moves to counter them in a natural way.

Like they did with Mega Absol and Hawlucha.

Megas are interesting but wy to use them always last if they are the strongest?

Imagine if Ash or Alan could have battled a trainer from Alola with a bunch of totally new pokes with their abilities to show that even a mega pokemon is not unbeaten.
(thats why we will get Z moves this generation)

What I find funny is that Mega's seemed to be used as a form of Ace in the hole in the anime, yet more often then not most battlers will use their Mega mid battle, possibly even early in the match. I do understand why they did this though, because it'd be pretty anticlimatic to have this super powered Pokemon get defeated rather early in a match, then get saved for an epic final showdown. That being said this could be because they made Mega's just a tad underneath Legendary status, but still strong enough that a regular Pokemon stands almost no shot at winning without prior help from the rest of the team.

For starters, I really like how their strength level is visually expressed through larger, more destructive attacks. I also love how they're depicted with this sense of grandeur and significance in the story, and that bonds are actually shown rather than just talked about. In the X&Y games, they just take Korrina's Lucario and tell you that you have a strong bond with it :/ But here, they show us that Korrina pretty much grew up with her Lucario like they were a pair of siblings, and that they have to work on mastering their power. And I thought it was a great idea to have the second Luke be Gurkinn's (while giving them a student/teacher relationship).

But then, kind of like with the ORAS games, it just became so trivialized. Characters were just getting them for the sake of having powerful Pokemon fight each other, and Ash Greninja is made out to be an even better transformation than Mega because 'Synchro!'. Left a bad taste in my mouth.
