How do you feel about the Gym leaders that only got 1 episode?

Some Gym leaders in the show were given very little screentime, a lot of Gym leaders from Kanto and Johto only got 1 episode of screentime:

Lt. Surge
Erika
Koga
Falkner
Bugsy
Chuck

Do you think these characters should have gotten another episode? Now in DP, the Gym leaders get 3-4 episodes each on average, (aside from Wake), and we get to know them better.

eh u cant give too much time to gym leaders, especially the ones that arent very interesting. Blaine was my favourite from Kanto so i am glad he got two episodes. Whitney and Clair were also among my favs. Juan was the best one in hoenn so i am glad he got pretty good screentime.

Unless the gym leader is very intersting, i dont see anything wrong with them getting 1 or 2 episodes. Only the very interesting ones should get 2 or more episodes

While I certainly enjoy it when a Gym Leader gets several episodes to star in, I don't think it detracts from the others to be in a single episode. I let the battle dictate whether or not I enjoy their stay.

KOGA ♥♥♥
give him his own spinoff and i might be satisfied =3=

If the gym leader has a legitimite reason to have more than one episode than I like it... For example, Maylene this season it was a great 4 episode arc because they introduced her and her lack of self confidence, then they had her fight Dawn to parallel their lack of self-confidence, gym battle (one of the best this season IMO) and the Galactic episode... or how Candice became part of Zoey's storyline

Sometimes, the gym leaders just don't have either the personnality or aren't relevant to the current story arc so giving them one good episode is great...

But sometimes I actually wished the writers ony gave gym leaders one episode, cause they put gym leaders in useless filler episode... The most striking example of that was the twins in Hoenn... that second episode with the space shuttle wasn't all that good, had nothing to do with the season and was very wtf in general... It felt they were kept around to be kept around... Fantina also could be considered in that category... Great gym battle but that episode we saw of her before just made me ask myself, "Why is she in generic nameless town number 54325 instead of being in the gym" it quite honestly felt a little forced...

So basically if there's no storyline to be told, I don't mind just seeing them in one episode...

I see you left the Orange Island Gym Leaders and the Frontier Brains out of this.

I noticed that a lot of people are saying that a Gym Leader shouldn't get more screentime because they're so boring. Yet the fact that they don't get any screentime is precisely *why* they're so bland in the first place! If all they get to do is appear and command pokemon in battle, they don't have any time to show any signs of a personality and would therefore benefit from the extra screentime.

I always thought Surge utilized his single episode very well and had a lot of personality despite that. Chuck wasn't boring either, I think the inclusion of his wife added a lot. Other Gym Leaders, though...

I wish Falkner and Bugsy got more episodes than the single one they ended up receiving. They didn't strike me as that bland in the games, I thought they have a lot more to offer. =(

Lt. Surge and Chuck's episodes and characters were definately not boring. Especially since we saw Chuck's wife and Lt. Surge's epic Raichu as well. Erika, while not having a too interesting personality, hers was shown well.

I wish Bugsy, Falkner and Koga had more screen time. I hope Koga will if writers want to wind up his new status as an Elite, and his daughter becoming the next Gym Leader. Falkner, while his father haven't shown in games, still tried to be better than him, which in my opinion is a good idea for a decent plot. Bugsy's only interesting quirks are his age, clothes and Pokémon of choice, though he could get and appeareance in Slowpoke Well against Rockets, but sadly that plot had never been used in anime. I hope with the redesigning of TR Lance, they do that plot.

well, I wouldn't say we should give the Orange Island people more screentime since I think the show is trying to make us forget about that (you know, the whole reason we went there is because of that GS Ball)

As for those gym leaders, we may very well see them in the future, what with the Johto games having come out now. It's a longshot, but hey, maybe the writers may find that it works out. I can think of a few ways.

Some Gym Leaders are so bland that more than one episode of them would kill me. I don't mind the screentime they get as long as they give Ash a good battle.

I would have liked Falkner to get another episode. Maybe showing Ash how to hang glide through the city would have been nice.

Meh. I generally ignore the gym leaders anyways. Sometimes, even the awesome ones. They're great in the games and in fanworks, but for some reason, their anime appearances don't excite me.

More eps for Gym Leaders would be great ;_;! oh seriously... i cant imagine they only battling battling... this people don't... huh... live? Oo
(and i'm a stupid fangirl, but, ignore D:)

During the Battle Frontier arc, I had hoped that we could see underused Kanto characters again, including the CotD gym leaders. Ash could have seen how they were doing after 2+ years, or whatever. Alas, once again the writers dropped the ball. Oh well...

That would have been nice.

Some Gym leaders are bland, yes, but I'm impressed the way most of the Sinnoh ones got 3-4 episodes.

They actually feel like real people now.
