How do you found a new club correctly?

I'm not sure, so I'd better ask before I start founding a club:

Do we have to use the Social Clubs in order to found a new one or can we also just found a new club by opening an ordinary thread?
What exactly are the advantages of those "Social Clubs"?

Social Clubs are like their own mini forums where you can post multiple discussions about the group's subject.
