How do you get the Icons under your name?

They signify that you are a member of that public usergroup. To join one, follow these steps:
Click on Private Messages at the top.
Click on 'Group Memberships' to the left.
Check which one you want to join.
Click 'Join group'. You may have to say why you want to join that group. If you do have to wait, you will get the symbol thingy after someone approves you.
