Hey, I'm just wondering, how do you get your in-game team?
Do you just capture the first thing that pop out from the grass?
Do you plan a lot?
Do you capture multiple for right nature or do you just pick the first you find?

Personally, I just capture the first five different pokemon I find, then I exchange them when I find something I want more.

When replaying I usually just trade some egg over from my other game.

Re: How do you get youre team?

When I'm playing the game for the first time, I just pick up pokemon on the way that I need. I don't SR or anything like that until my second run through the game (that is if I ever do). And like you, I bring over pokes that I need to beat the game faster when I'm on my other runs.

Thanks.

Re: How do you get youre team?

I capture the first five things I find and stick with them until the bitter end! Well, pretty much. In Platinum's case that meant Starly, Shinx, Budew, Kricketot and Magikarp... Relegating the Bidoof to HM user.

Re: How do you get youre team?

For my in-game team, I'm usually very whimsical. I go around with my starter and when I see anything I feel like raising at the moment, I'll catch it. It's how I wound up training (and loving) a Girafarig, a Floatzel and a Magmar, all of which are Pokemon I never would have thought to train otherwise

Re: How do you get youre team?

I normally have some sort of plan as to what I'll do, but don't always stick to it entirely. It's mostly just like catch a water Pokemon or something. Although for HG, I have a definate plan set out, although that's just because I've never been waiting for a game to come out like this. Normally with Pokemon the first time I hear about the games is when I see it in the store...

Re: How do you get youre team?

I plan my team from the beginning and I rarely catch any other pokes.I
Ability bothers me a lot. The other day on HG I spent around an hour trying to get a Water Absorb Poliwag as Damp in my view isn't useful in-game.

I'm a bit more relaxed when it comes to Nature. As long as it doesn't reduce the attacking stat that I intend to use, then I'll work with it.

Re: How do you get youre team?

During the early game, I go with what I can find. Later on, I catch multiples of the same Pokemon (assuming it's not really rare) for the stats (man, that made me sound like Paul or Silver).

I also go for IVs (20-31 is considered good for me, but that's only for the stats I'll be EV training them on).

Edit: I plan my team ahead of time as well.

I usually have a minor plan to balance my team from the start. On my diamond game I started with Turtwig, caught a starly and shinx early in the game, and then caught a water and a fire pokemon as I progressed (I think I had a Lumineon for a short time :p). Leave the last slot open for Dialga, and I was good to go ^.^

Re: How do you get youre team?

I just focus on getting a Fire, Water or Grass type depending on what starter I choose then find some other pokemon that'll be offensive and maybe one deflective wall pokemon

Re: How do you get youre team?

I only catch Pokemon that I like or interested.. I don't like having all kind of random pokemon in my pc.. So I try to make it as few as possible..

Re: How do you get youre team?

I usually have a rough idea of who I'm going to use before I start my game. I improvise a little bit though sometimes.

Re: How do you get youre team?

For battling, I pick out types to make a good balanced team, then just raise them with whatever nature they have.

For contests, I pick out Pokemon that'll be compatible with accessories I have, then raise them like my children and feed them Poffins until they explode.

Re: How do you get youre team?

I loom at what the game offers me right from the start of the journey. Like in platinum my in-game team is bidoof, infernape, roserade, staraptor, and floatzel who are all obtainable at the beggining, and then o spend the rest of the game evolving them. It's the most pathetic pokemon team ever :3

Re: How do you get youre team?

Fundamentally I'm an artist, not a gamer. So, at least up to now, my in-game team is my ONLY team and I pick them because of emotional attachment and my own made-up flavor. They're much more characters to me than a bundle of statistics and moves. I really work on developing their characters and relationships, and even pick which pokemon to send into battle based on their personal story.

I got my first game (Silver) just as the Johto arc in the anime was being aired and played along with them, fighting each gym and obsticle as Ash and co. came to it. It took me over a year to even get to the E4 (and I didn't have a clue what I was doing) but it was the most fun I've ever had with a game ever. Totally worth it! If the anime had grown more mature at the same rate I have, I would totally do it again.

Ultimately, it's MY game and I have no obligation to try to make my team the best of anything. The flavor, not the strategy, is what I personally enjoy about pokemon so that's all I worry about.

For HG/SS though, I'm going to do what I've always wanted to do and play through my favorite region with a custom-made themed team and no starters from as soon as trades are possible in the game.

Re: How do you get youre team?

I pick a team before I get the game, make changes so I get the Pokémon that I want and are easy to catch(thus my change from Ttar to Steelix for HG). Even though I probably will change it. It will defitnitly have Typlosion, Ho-oh, Jolteon, the Steelix Jasmine trades you, and the Red Gyrados...

Re: How do you get youre team?

I plan and test before I choose my team.

Re: How do you get youre team?

In Diamond, I just caught the first of each type I wanted. Then after that I slowly replaced them if I found something better. For example, I traded my Shellos out for a Gyarados.

But in Platinum, I have my team planned out in advance to save me time later in the game.

Re: How do you get youre team?

I usually pick a team before I start, then scrap members during the game because I get tired of them or they simply don't really work all that well. In my first Diamond-save, I had no idea what to use, so I kinda made it as I played. Ended up with Empoleon, Staraptor, Luxray, Lucario, Mothim and Girafarig, the last two just because I wanted it.

I did plan my Platinum-team in advance, and followed through with it.

Re: How do you get youre team?

I've never planned my teams I always just catch whatever I like.
(except that I always pick the water starter)so on my first elite 4 i ended up with:
Empoleon, Roserade, Espeon(from trade) and Golem....Yes I only had 4.
Since then I replaced espeon and golem with metagross and salamence and also got mismagius(rejected), ampharos(rejected), mamoswine(good) and porygon-z(good)

Re: How do you get youre team?

My team revolves around my starter, but rarely goes upto six pokemon.
