How do you name your Pokemon?

Do you just decide on random names, or do you have a specific theme for them?

When I started breeding Dratini I named them all after literary or mythical dragons and serpents--the two Dragonite that I use, a brother and sister, are named Fafnir and Melusine respectively. They also have 7 other siblings who are still Dragonair, but I forgot their names at the moment.

The only exceptions to this was their mother (Lilith, who I traded away ages ago) and Melusine's daughter (also named Lilith).

I also named two Slowpoke Herp and Derp, give all Stantler Finnish names, name Miltank after dairy products, and give all Jigglypuff and Clefairy ridiculously cutesy names like Marshmallow and Sugarcube. And Ponyta are all named after My Little Pony characters, depending on their natures and personality blurbs.

Yes, I've gone mad.

depends on what movie the pokemon reminds me of, otherwise i just think of something relating that pokemon.

I name them practically anything. From Silver the Meganium to DARKRAI the Tangela to Oddball the Lileep. XD

I come up with names of Pokemon before I catch them. I usually make up a name that is related to the Pokemon, or it's origins. I name Pseudo-Legendaries after Legend of Zelda characters, though. Others are inspired by the Pokemon itself. Or if I have a really good name to use.

I come up with names of Pokemon before I catch them.

I sort of do this with my starters. Every starter of every game is Tony. Even on the off chance that it's a girl. And all Ditto-clones of that starter are named Tony Jr.

I name them anything, but prefer names that remind me of that pokémon so I can think of that pokémon when I hear that name. If there is a pokémon I really can't be bothered with (Like bidoof or patrat), I name "aaa" or something, because I just spam "A" when I catch them.

I rarely name my pokemon, but when I do it can either be:

Random normal names: Wilbur the Drilbur, Samuel the Samurott or George the Darmanitan.

Mythological names: Helios the Ampharos, Kronos the Tyranitar or Hercules the Heracross.

Historical figures: Ceasar the Unfezant or Achilles the Zangoose

I recently quit my Warrior Cats naming habit, so now anything goes. Even if it's horrible, I can't stand unnicknamed Pokemon.

And descendants of my Pokes to send to the next generation get Roman numerals added to the original's name.

So if I had a Bidoof named "Bob", for example, its offspring to send to Gen V would be named "Bob II", and then the one to be sent to Gen VI would be "Bob III", the next being "Bob IV", etc.

I only name my main party members, and for those I make up unique names by rearranging the letters in their species name and removing one. For White Version:

Serperior: Rriesper
Excadrill: Arxcelid
Scolipede: Plecidos
Sigilyph: Ghisiyl
Carracosta: Aroccrast
Chandelure: Lacruehne

Usually I just don't bother with nicknames, but on the rare past occasions I've changed their names, I always go for human ones. In Pokemon Blue I called my Blastoise 'Daryl'

Usually just random nicknames I think of, but on White I named all of my pokemon after foods.

I always nickname my pokemon. I usually just name them whatever comes to mind when I've caught them, and if I can't come up with something I just name them by their species name or I name them after something given up in it's dex description.

I always put hard work into deciding names for my team and decide way before I catch them.

I barely name my Pokemon.
But when I do, I name them actors' and actresses' names.
I dont know why. :/

Sometimes, it's an object name, such as Beach Ball the Azumarill. Sometimes, it's a somewhat-simple word (which have to be a little bit compressed to fit the limit), such as BittrSweet the Togekiss. Sometimes, the name employs Japanese words (often in actual kana), such as Mosajaki the Sableye. There are several other ways I name my Pokes, but these are the most prominent.

Many times the name is based off an attribute of the creature/type like Sprout the Turtwig or Croc the Totodile. Some on a complete whim with no reasons whatsoever like Dex the Drillbur. Others are the same name of the same Pokemon species from previous games like Tyrant the T-tar or Monsoon the Azumarill. Every member of the Marill family I get is named Monsoon, by beloved Azumarill from Ruby.

Sometimes I name them things like Ppyfacetmtnse. Which is short for Poopy Face Tomato Nose. Or just normal or just random names

Generally, I name them based off of their names(Pika-X, Nidocrush, Fearus, Shrewster), JP names(Kamex, Lizardo, Waruvial, Ordile), based on their trait/type(Aquas, Rager, Dux, Buzapis) or completely random at times(Useless, Empleah, Nigel, Gorola).

I just name them any random thing that comes to mind.

I name them by what they look like. Yes, names resemble a Pokemon to me. xD

For Oshawott, it was the hardest one to decide but I named it Aqua.
For Blitzle, I named it Zappy.
For Sewaddle, I named it Calpi (which resembles Sewaddle, and a little bit of Leavanny if you keep it long enough).
For Litwick, it is Llant.
For Pawniard, I named it Zorro specifically for Bisharp.
and for Rufflet, I forgot. xD
