how do you pronounce certain pokemon's names?

while playing the games, you start calling some pokemon a certain way. then the anime comes out, and pronounces their name a different way, then how you first thought it was. then it's like "WHAT?!"

so do you still call certain pokemon the same way you always called them since you first saw their name, or do you copy what the anime says? i still call riolu "rie-lu" and phione "fee-own".

and what are some examples of names that you were really surprised on? i was surprised by arceus' actual pronounciation. "ar-kee-us".
i still call him "ar-see-us"
 
I go with whatever the characters pronounce the name in the dub. I might stick with ar-see-us (Arceus), though.
 
Lol, I actually thought Arceus was pronounced "ar-kee-us". Today, while watching an older episode on the net and they said Linoone, I was just like wtf coz they pronounced it as "lie-noon", and I say "lyn-oon" I think I just pronounce the names that I think sound better, whether they are right or not.
 
Used to think it was "Soo-ih-soon" before I saw the 4ever movie. So apparently Suicune is pronounced "Swee-koon"... I prefer my pronunciation.

Also, it's "Ar-KEE-us"??? Since when?
 
Since the new Arceus Platinum set for the cards was announced on tv.

I personally used to pronounce it Ar-cay-us cause I thought that would be how it would be pronounced in japanese. I like mine better.

I also used to pronounce Linoone as Lin-o-one for a long time.
 
I tend to go with what the Pokèrap tells me:B Since I for some reason have the raps of Kanto, Jotho and Hoenn on my iPod..

Not that it matters... half of what isn't game music on my iPod is Anime-music. Including 4kids' Pokèmon themes...they're not half bad:3
 
I pronounce "Budew" as "boo-doo", though I've heard others go "bud-oo". As for Arceus, I go with "ar-see-us" or "ar-say-us", even though the official one sounds like "ark-ee-us" now...
 
I used to prenounce all the name very Dutch. Blaziken as Blaa-zee-ken. Linoone as Lee-no-nuh. Sceptile as Skep-tee-luh. But I don't anymore xD
 
I still don't get how the 'american'/English pronunciation of "Arceus" has a hard K sound (ARK-ee-us). :/ I say it closer to the JP pronunciation, Ah-ru-se-u-su, just dropping most of the Us making it Ahr-se-us. Seriously though, why did they decide to make the "C" into a hard K sound? It's written with an S in Japanese!

As for others, I usually go by whatever I fish think, most of them are kinda obvious. Though as far as most of the Sinnoh pokemon go, I pronounce them like their Japanese names if they didn't change, or just call them their Japanese names 9 times out of 10 since I learned their JP names first. :p Which, of course, eliminates all possibilities for pronunciation errors (unless I read a character wrong *shakes fist at ソ, ン, シ, and ツ*), since there's only one way to pronounce each syllable. :p

Also now whenever I see a word I don't know (not just pokemon names) I tend to use Japanese pronunciation as a guide to sounding it out. :p Dunno why. xD
 
I pick a translation and fix it when the dub gives it right. Assuming they do, of course.
 
I've always pronounced Arceus as 'Ar-suess' -- an imitation of the Greek God, Zeus. >__> Would make sense in my opinion, but that's just me.

Oh yeah, I have that too, from the 1st season. I'm still hunting the Orange Islands, Johto, and Hoenn scores. I might go with Sinnoh too, not sure...

I said "Ar-swace" and "Ar-see-us" for a looong time. I mean, since I saw it June 2007 in Beckett.

Another one was "Dark-ray" which I think sounds better...

I still don't know how to say Drapion, which is why I avoid it completely xD

And I also pronounced the e in Empoleon, as "Emm-pole-eon" rather than "Imp-ole-eon."
 
It's Ar-See-Us, not Ar-Kee-Us you fools!!!

Sorry, had to get that out. >_> They totally messed that up, and now I'll have to deal with little kids pronouncing it in the way I don't like it.
