As many know, Golem is a very odd word. It has three pronunciations, Goe-lem, Gay-lem, and Goy-lem, plus a fake one, Gull-lum. And, since the Pokemon Golem shares the name, it may have three pronunciation +1 as well!

So, how do YOU pronounce it? I use the first pronunciation, Goe-lem.

Gullum?

I also pronounce it the first way Goe-lem.

Hasn't the last pronunciation something to do with the movies of The Lord of the Rings?

Goe-lem would be like "'go' over there." Goh-lem would be like "'gol'ly". Or maybe it should be Gah-lem. Whatever. It's still a fairly common pronunciation, however you want to spell out the pronunciation itself.

how the heck do you get gay-lem out of that?

a dictionary.

as for Gull-lum, there's a bunch of people at my school, well, everyone besides me, who pronounce Golem as Gullum. I'm all like "THAT IS A STUPID THING IN LORD OF THE RINGS, NOT A WORD!" but they never listen.

Which dictionary?

Change the first "u" to an "o" and you've basically got the more classical pronunciation.

Plus there's the modification of the second syllable (either pronouncing it "lum" or "lem").

go-lem. It's just as it reads.

You do realize even spelling it like that, there are two different pronunciations, right? And there's a commonly accepted variation on the second syllable. It's like "potato" or "tomato". Or "the".

Gay-lem.

Proper pronounciation, or creepy yaoi-fic by a rock fetish?
