This is like the thread "If you were in charge of the anime", but focusing on the end. If you were the executives, how would you make the end of the show?

Satoshi would defeat Shirona, but instead of becoming champion decides to travel the world to defeat many more. Years later he decides to retire and become the first gym leader of Masara Town. He would marry one of the girls.

I wouldn't necessarily have any massive accomplishment achieved, or have it ending on him winning a league or an intense match with a formidable rival but I understand a lot of people would find that more satisfying.

I would probably like to end on a moment of insight actually - this probably will sound quite banal to people, but just a moment where he and just Pikachu are exasperated, they're been through high hell, matches have been gruelling, rivals tough, and the journey long. They both just flop to the ground in exhausted protest, not saying a word to each other. Above them, the familiar golden streak of Ho-oh crosses the sky, and they just gaze up at it. They start reminiscing about their first encounter with the legendary, everything that has happened since then. As he reflects on his memories, Ash realises the beauty of the scenery, the precious feelings of his friends in his heart and the pure thrill of battling (very shounen, I know) - what makes his journeys what they are. He begins to appreciate how amazing his journey is but just like Ho-oh streaking across the sky, it isn't over yet - he'll keep going.

Then, it kind of develops to his adult life, and I think while Ash mightn't settle down with a family and spouse (or maybe he might), he and pikachu would live out in a bungalow by the coast in Kanto. I think he'd be kind of famous and have a career in publicity - giving motivational talks to trainers, writing autobiographies, televised documentaries of his journeys, being called in to provide commentary on battles on TV and Radio, participating in advertisements. He's charismatic, so I can envisage him doing practical work with trainers starting out, helping them train. Every summer, he and Pikachu go for a little journey together across regions - it airs on national television and everyone becomes excited for when Ash Ketchum would visit their town.

I would like Ash to win a Pokémon League, preferably the Kanto League, then take on and beat the Elite Four and finally face off against Gary, who has become a Pokémon Trainer once more, for the regional championship. They face off against one another, with each of them using their six best Pokémon, with Ash beating him once again. At the end, Ash then goes on to face off against the World Pokémon League Champion, who happens to be Leaf. The series ends as the two send out their first Pokémon, leaving it to the viewers' imagination as to who wins, or if it ends up a tie.

I would like to see Ash's journey end like this. He wins his first league, though he can't defeat a member of the Elite 4. He realizes he has more training to do, which leads into the next league that he may win again, or lose. Depending on the outcome, he may, or may not defeat a member of the Elite 4. His next time around, Ash goes back to Kanto for another try at the Kanto League. He reunites with Brock and Misty and travels alongside them again. Eventually, Ash makes his way all the way to the Elite 4 and manages to finally win. He'll settle down at this point and the series will retire him.

Oh I like this it gave me chills.

I've said this before here in another thread:

I heard somewhere along the lines of the series ending with a Pokémon Revolt or Ash growing up from Pokémon affairs to the real world. Here's the blog translated by someone on Reddit:

年月がたち、老人になったサトシは、ふと、昔を思い出す。

Months and years having passed, Satoshi, who has become an old man, suddenly¹ remembers the old days.

それは美化された少年時代の思い出。

It is an embellished memory of childhood.

空想……、

A fantasy²......,

想像の生き物ポケモンたちとの冒険。友情。共存。

The imaginary creatures, Pokémon, and their adventure. Friendship. Coexistence.

それは、現実の人間の世界で、サトシが出会えなかったものだっかもしれない。

That is, in the real human world, something Satoshi could not possibly encounter.

しかし、少年時代のどこかに、確かにピカチュウやポケモンがいて、ムサシがいてコジロウがいてミュウツーがいて……

However, somewhere in childhood, surely Pikachu and the other Pokémon are there, Musashi and Kojirou are there, Mewtwo is there...

それだけではない、サトシの少年時代の冒険で出会ったすべてが、老人になったサトシの目には見える。

Not just that; everyone Satoshi encountered on his childhood adventure can be seen in the elderly Satoshi's eyes.

サトシの耳にサトシの母親の声が聞こえる。

Satoshi hears his mother's voice in his ear.

「さあ、早く寝なさい。あしたは旅立ちの日でしょう」

"Come along, hurry to bed. You set off on your journey³ in the morning, don't you?"

翌朝、母親に叩き起こされたサトシの姿は少年に戻っていて、元気に家を飛び出していく。

The next morning, woken up by his mother, Satoshi, once again in the form of a young boy, energetically rushes out of the house.

それは「ポケモン、ゲットの旅ではなく、ポケモンマスターになる旅でもなく、自分とは何かを」探し、他者との共存を目指す旅だ。

This is a search "Not to catch Pokémon, not a journey to become a Pokémon Master, but to discover what I am", a journey with the goal of coexisting with others.

¹ふと (futo)- could also mean "casually", "unexpectedly", or "by chance" ²空想(kuusou)- could also be "daydream" ³旅立ち (tabidachi)- the verb form 旅立つ is also listed in dictionaries a euphemism for dying, similar to "pass away"

As for my take on how the original Ash's story ended, I always imagine he would be reflecting back on far he has gotten in the League and how close he is towards victory. He'll tell everyone about it with joy and excitement, especially to his old friends like Misty, Brock, May, Dawn and others. But by being so close to victory and later realizing that he would have surpassed Alain in their next battle, Ash would start thinking about closing that gap for the championship and figuring out what to do next. He would look at his Pokémon who made him into the trainer that he is, and realize that they should all partake in that goal, not just his current team. Of course, he hasn't heard of any League tournaments being available for the time being, so Ash revisiting his old Pokémon is less of training for the next League and more of rediscovering of his passion.

I believe he would remember that Ho-Oh on his first day as a trainer, how no one has ever encountered it despite attempts to call it back with the Tin Tower. Surely, that's a challenge Ash willing to accept. He sees the Ho-Oh again, and this time it's flying towards Mount Silver. A Rainbow Feather drops this time, falling in Ash's hand. Ash takes it as a sign that the time is right. He packs up with his now rotating team (as he intends all of his Pokémon to participate) and journeys to Mount Silver to hopefully encounter the Ho-Oh. That would be the ending.

Epilogue-wise, I imagine two-to-three years have past since the last episode of XYZ. Ash has become somewhat of a legend among new trainers. His heroics in the Kalos region managed to reach across the globe. Of how he had thwarted Team Flare along with other well known trainers. Of he had a unique Greninja that looks like him and rivaling that of Mega Evolution. And soon, people start digging up stories of his other exploits, such as being the only trainer that has taken down two legendaries from the undefeated Tobias and winning the Battle Frontier and the Orange League. Speculations arise on just how powerful is Ash based on those achievements. Meanwhile, there are rumors that a Ho-Oh being present at Mount Silver.

During this time, a young trainer named Bonnie would arrive to Kanto with two particular Pokémon at hand: A Red Zygarde Core named Squishy and a Greninja. She is looking for Ash, only to find out from Delia that Ash hasn't been home for quite a long time. The last known location he was in was Mount Silver. Bonnie is understandably upset, but decides to head to Mount Silver and return a special Pokémon to Ash. Along her journey, she encounters some of Ash's old friends like Brock and Misty.

Meanwhile the Team Rocket trio started to miss the twerp and his Pikachu. They were tasked to the Alola region, and were initially glad that Ash wasn't around to ruin their mission. But they start to miss his heroics and their chance to capture Pikachu. They speculated on where he could be. I still say they got into trouble with the Alola trainers and Bewear, so they weren't completely successful. But after their mission in Alola, the trio decides to look for Ash and capture Pikachu once and for all. Back at the Rocket HQ, Giovanni has decided to capitalize on the power vacuum left by his regional villainous rivals such Flare and Plasma. He has decided to capture Legendaries in the Johto region thanks to the rumors of Ho-Oh returning. He would also learn about the GS Ball and what it may contain (hint: Celebi). This is all a build up to a confrontation of destinies.

That's all I have right now, and it may change should something else happen. It's a lot longer than I thought, but then again I wanted to wrap most if not all the major plot points and character arcs established by the anime if I wanted the anime series from OS to XY to end with a conclusive note.

And I'll say it again with a bit of grammar correction.

I'm pretty bad at making up storylines but...
- Ash wins a Pokémon League for the first time.
- Big party reunion in Pallet Town.
- All main characters are there, also all of Ash's Pokémon obviously.
- Huge event happens, possibly involving some Legendary Pokémon and/or Giovanni and Team Rocket.
- Everyone joins in to help, the TRio also joins eventually.
- Big last shining moment for each and every main character.
- Everything settles down, everyone bids their farewells. Ii kanji.
- Ash decides to begin a new journey, maybe taking on the Elite Four or the Champions League.
- Last episode ends with him leaving Pallet Town again, not revealing the outcome of that journey.
- ...Maybe some short epilogue featuring him as an adult? I honestly don't care much about this, though.

I could see this happening during some 20-or-so-episode arc, so it's not like it needs its own season for it. The only problem is that I guess it's virtually impossible to get so many important voice actors at once without running short of budget.

I'd like for Ash's story to end in a season where there are many references to the past. Like Serena travelling with him, Dawn making occasional appearances, finding Brock at a hospital etc. Everything seems perfect and he's really super strong and could possibly win the league. And then one episode where he's training for the league he suddenly gets emotional and talks to Pikachu before Ho-Oh suddenly appears and that's the end. YES IT ENDS BEFORE HE EVEN TAKES PART IN THE LEAGUE. Ok if I'm feeling kinder during the league itself but definitely not before the final match.

I'd want something with all the prior travelling companions showing up (and maybe showing us some interactions we haven't seen before, like Serena and Misty) and, of course, to see him win the league. I'd love to see him get with Misty, but as long as she appeared, I'd be happy.

I'd have Ash go through a region and then go back home after winning the League

Next season, I'd introduce a new character who goes through a region and challenges the League - whether or not s/he wins would vary

Older protags may show up for Leagues as hurdles for the current protag to overcome and learn from

Rinse, wash and repeat for 20 years

I would have him go on Mount Silver for a year come back down as a 17 year old with Team Rocket being the only ones who point out how that doesn't make any sense.

He would tie up some loose ends including finally defeating Fearow and getting his Pidgeot back. He would then win the indigo league defeat Ritchie and become champion. Meet his Dad and go on to face previous rivals who became champions. Maybe have him catch Ho-oh.

Either have a different incarnation of Ash take over if sun and Moon is a reboot or make a new protagonist with a Pikachu next gen.

defeat Ritchie and become champion

I'd like to make a personal addition there: THIS time Ash argues furiously when Squirtle is disqualified for being asleep, and TRio's crimes of crippling a challenger before are proven and they're punished by giving permanent jobs in the league. They escape anyway and continue their journey as usual.

My idealized ending...

Ash wins a Pokemon league tournament, and is then introduced to a new region by the Elite Four - a region where all league winners reside, training with each other and with the horrifically strong wild Pokemon. It could be the equivalence to Cerulean Cave or Mt. Silver, but either way, it would be the last place in the quest to being a true Pokemon Master.

At first, Ash ends up being the underdog of the region, figuring out how to face against many of his greatest foes from past tournaments. He keeps learning from many of the trainers, and in the middle, the Team Rocket Trio is sent by Giovanni to investigate the great powers hidden the region, and why the wild Pokemon there are overly strong...

In the process of training in the region, Ash turns into a stoic kind of trainer - a shadow of his former laid back self, as he aims to go all the way to the top, in hopes of gaining honors of battling the Elite Four. Eventually, he does gain the right to do so, with all the amazing tactics he has learned all throughout the story arc... Even being able to finally defeat his past adversaries (Alain, Tobias, etc.).

But in the middle the first Elite Four battle, Team Rocket discovers the secret to the pure power hidden in the region, and Giovanni abruptly uses it against all the trainers around there, in hopes to take over the humble region. Eventually, Ash has to team up with the Elite Four to stop his plans - and even the Trio revolts against their boss!

What happens is the clash becomes so harsh and so dramatic, that in the end, Ash, exhausted on his back, realizes something missing in this region on what it means to be a true Master... And then Ho-oh appears flying towards the sunset, and all the other trainers. With that, ash ends his bout against the elite four without finishing, and instead walks towards Ho-oh to beyond yonder, in hopes to find what being a master really means... and the Rocket Trio, abandoning their organization stalking along with him.

Ends right there.

...Something like this would be a fantasy come true.

Ash wins a league but get stomped by the elite four and decides enough is enough and retires.
