I have read on other forums that he is a bad pokemon but I do not understand why. I used him in my first Soulsilver team and in my W2 team. He was one of the most useful pokemons I have ever used. He was much more useful than Haxorus for example. So what makes him bad?

His only problem is that he's a little frail because of low defense and average hp but overall is one of the best electric type pokemon, so yeah he's a pretty good pokemon.

A lot of its hatred is harbored by the "hardcore" competitive battling community, where a lot of people just automatically disregard Electivire as a "noob Pokémon." One reason is because Electivire was (and still is) popular to a lot of fans, particularly fans who weren't hardcore competitive battlers, because it was among the first Gen. IV Pokémon featured; it even appeared in the anime (under Gary's ownership) before the DP arc began. Another reason is because Electivire was very hyped at the start of DP due to its then-unique Ability, Motor Drive, as well as its good offensive stats and insane movepool. Yet another reason is because a lot of competitive players felt that Electivire failed to live up to its hype, as ThunderPunch was a lackluster physical STAB, and despite its stats and moves, it often fell short of KO'ing its opponents, sometimes finding itself stopped cold by opposing Pokémon such as Swampert.

Personally, I like Electivire. But even I must concede that in competitive battles, it's not a Pokémon that you can just toss out there and expect to win; you have to play it carefully for it to shine, but if you do play it right, it can terrorize an opposing team.

Of course, if we're just talking in-game, then Electivire is definitely a reliable (almost overpowered, I would daresay) Pokémon for getting through the game. Trust me. I used one in Diamond, and it did not disappoint.

Agreed. With it's vast movepool, it can always find some use in an in-game team.
Especially given its Electric typing, and the fact, in game, not everything and its sister has Earthquake... It can be sent in against many things to do some damage with one of its various moves. I recall one of its movesets being able to hit 13 types Super Effectively, so it'll be a decent pokemon against most gym-leaders/elites not named Giovanni, Bertha or Clay.
Also, in the Metagame, Base 95 Speed is probably below average for an offensive Pokemon, but, in game, that's still pretty damn fast. The fastest quarter, at least, I would imagine.

I, personally, love Electivire, and would probably have him on my dream team, even with his many faults.

I find Electivire really useful. His Thunderpunch is pretty powerful, Ice Punch can be used against Ground types for covering, Earthquake can kill of other Electric types and then it has other good Physical moves like Fire Punch or Brick Break.

You guys are right in that Electivire is a very useful in game pokemon but it does fall short in competitive battles. This is primarily because it is outclassed by other pokemon. Electivire is best as a mixed attacker so when compared to other mixed pokemon in OU it is slower than both Infernape and Keldeo and is weaker than Hydreigon and Kyurem B. It's not that it is a terrible pokemon it's just that there are others that do its job better.

depends on the tier. in ou electivire will most likely get it´s butt kicked and hard. in lower tiers it might be pretty useful.
