How long do you think Sinnoh will end up being episode-wise?

Note I said "Sinnoh" and not the "D/P series" since this series may have something else after Sinnoh like AG's Battle Frontier. So just considering Sinnoh region episodes and not what might come after, how long is this saga going to be?

We have confirmed Japanese titles up to D/P 58 and Ash still only has two badges. Compared to Hoenn, AG 56 was the Flannery Gym battle. In other words, Ash was collecting badges in Hoenn at about a pace of two badges faster than Sinnoh.

Now some say that the only reason there's such a big gap between badges is because the writers are mimicking the gap between the 2nd and 3rd Gym in the games, and after this is over, they're going to speed up the pace between the following Gyms. Yet...I don't see that happening. I still see the writers making at least 10-13 episodes between each Gym, (which is shorter than the current 20+ episode gap, but whatever), and that's still not taking into account the length of the Grand Festival, Sinnoh League, and whatever might happen with Pokehunter J towards the end.

Do you think Sinnoh will go on for more than 150 episodes? And if so, do you think the writers will have time to do anything with the Elite 4 foreshadowing before the 5th gen starts? If you've seen the sales numbers of D/P, you know that Gamefreak won't wait more than 4 years to make a sequal due to all the money they make at the start of a new gen of games, giving the writers a limited timeframe to do the current saga...yet they're taking their time.

What do you think is going to be the total length of Sinnoh?

I think Sinnoh is probably going to take about 170 episodes. I can see the third game having an addition a la Battle Frontier, but I don't know if the series will explore that in depth (Johto certainly didn't have an addition after the league).

The way things are going, I say that if there is an addition it would take probably about 30 episodes, bringing DP up to about 200 episodes. And that in itself would probably be the Elite Four challenge.

I don't care how long it'll be, really. I'm just glad that, although it takes some time to go between one badge and another, the episodes between the badges are well-written and full of plot and character development. Even the fillers are fun. They've really learned how to write since Johto, the last region to have such huge gaps between badges.

...hell. I don't even care about Gym Battles. The less I see of them, the better.

Yanno this looks a lot like my thread at sppf. But whatever since I was too lazy to start one here. I’ll say what I said at my thread. I think Shinou could last 160 or 170 episodes, because I don’t think writers want to write a filler saga. Think about it, Kanto was 82 episodes, so they to write a filler saga, the Orange Islands. So when we got to Johto it was really long, 157 episodes, far longer than Kanto. They had so much filler to make it longer, even doing the Whirl Islands to make it even longer. It was like they were determined not to write a filler saga. But Johto was so long and it went so badly, they had to make Hoenn shorter, around 130 episodes, so they had to write another filler saga the BF, and now have Shinou which is going on really long. It’s like a pattern, Kanto short, Orange Islands filler saga, Johto long, Hoenn shorter, BF filler saga, Shinou longer. The writers just don’t like writing filler sagas. So Shinou could be really long

185 episodes would be nice.

If the do the pattern above^ what will the filler be like?

Well first we would have a shorter main saga if the people complain about the length of this saga. Then the filler saga would probably be based off something in fifth gen game. That’s the difference between the Orange Islands and the BF. I don’t think they liked having to make everything up in the OI. Or having to use ideas for future games. That’s why the BF was based off a game. I think the filler saga will be another BF or the Elite Four maybe.

Hopefully the third Gym isn't announced too far off yet, but aren't there still areas in the games they haven't covered? They're using a ton of game areas this saga, so I don't expect any to be skipped.

They're gonna go through Solaceon I reckon. And they're almost near it, considering they're going past Spiritomb's home.

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure they said Dawn's next Contest is there too.

So figure the Contest is 2 episodes, plus a standard filler set in the town, plus the route they have to cover along the way, plus the travel time to Veilstone, plus a possible Paul or Galactic ep...

...and it could be another 10 episodes yet till badge 3.

I'm sure 3 and 4 and 5 will probably be short though.

you never know though, after all Jouto took for bloody ever between gyms 3 and 4(and then the 4th and 5th) when it doesn't take long in the games distance wise.

You know i wonder if celestic town will be skipped, cause I have a feeling that after the 6th gym that unless they have them go through jubilife and florama yet again that they will somehow use a boat to get back up around eterna(where if gardenia takes cacnea we'll see how it's doing more than likely) and go through mount coronet to Snowpoint from there...beyond that getting to the 8th gym is gonna be insane...

Really, as long as the series keeps up its current quality, it can be as long as Johto was. The big difference is that the Sinnoh series has corrected the problems Johto had, leading to a greater number of episodes of greater quality.

Make the comparison: Sinnoh has real villains (Hunter J, along with Galactic whenever they appear) while Johto only had Team Rocket. There are new, interesting rivals now (Paul, Nando and even Zoey) instead of merely extending the old rivals, like Johto did with Gary. And finally, Sinnoh has proven totally unpredictable---almost nobody thought Ash would get Chimchar, James would leave Cacnea with Gardenia, or the Aipom/Buizel trade would actually happen.

What we currently know of upcoming episodes is that in episode 55, we'll be told of the Zui contest, in 56 they'll deal with Mikaruge, and neither 57 nor 58 will have them reach Zui. It can also be assumed that there will be an episode revolving around the Lost Tower before we get to Zui as well.

So yeah, the journey to the next town, which STILL isn't the town where the 3rd gym is, will take at least 7 episodes, possibly more. We won't be seeing that gym for quite a while.

Snowpoint gym will be the real problem. We could be looking at anything up to 30 eps of Blizzard conditions each way, unless they go by sea and it's unlikely they'll skip that much of the map.

Ash was collecting badges in Hoenn at about a pace of two badges faster than Sinnoh.

We can't know that until Sinnoh will end
Only after that try to check the pace of these very little amount of episodes we get each saga that are important but not necessarily better and no one should watch only or mostly for them as all of them together won't even make 100 episodes out of this more than 500 episodes series
Just stop complaining and enjoy the show... we shouldn't complain since DP is the best of Pokémon and if you put nostalgia and personal opinion aside this is NOT arguable

Do you think Sinnoh will go on for more than 150 episodes? And if so, do you think the writers will have time to do anything with the Elite 4 foreshadowing before the 5th gen starts?

The writers are actually planning ahead this time unlike how they did in the past
So they'll make sure to do all they want before a new generation
Also I can see the E4 thing happen either way:
- "Filler" (shorter is a better term I think) saga: the E4 and Cynthia will be like the frontier brains and Brandon
- Sinnoh only until the next generation: the E4 and Cynthia will be as a tournament and Ash will battle them one after the other like in the games and I think this is actually what they plan to do - from Lucian's explanation it seems like someone who won the league can enter the "champion league" that will be a tournament of him and the E4

What do you think is going to be the total length of Sinnoh?

Some people try to make it so Johto and Hoenn were totally different in the amount of episodes but it isn't that true
Johto was 150 and something while Hoenn was 130 and something (if I remember correct)
A difference of about 20-30 episodes really isn't that important
The main reason Hoenn seemed better than Johto isn't just the amount of episodes but what actually happen in the episodes - the plot and the development - this is what really important and in that DP wins and if it'll continue to be this good they can make it 4546364 episodes
At least that what I think... people make the gyms bigger thing than what they really are and forget everything about things that are really important
Also while currently compared to previous sagas the badges got at a slower pace the ribbons in contrast were obtained much faster - in the first 49 episodes of AG May participated in one contest and lost and there was the first contest that she didn't enter but in DP's first 49 episodes Dawn already participated in 3 contests + one unofficial and won one ribbon already (Dawn got her first ribbon in DP27 while May got her first ribbon in AG51 - Dawn got her's half the time it took May) and she even started her contests before Ash start his gyms so by contests the things are going faster - why everyone didn't mention that and instead only see the "bad" things? (though again I don't think the amount of episodes between gyms/contests is that important)

And finally, Sinnoh has proven totally unpredictable---almost nobody thought Ash would get Chimchar, James would leave Cacnea with Gardenia, or the Aipom/Buizel trade would actually happen.

"Almost nobody"? you mean these some people that decided to ignore all of the obvious hints and a lot of building that was done for Aipom/Buizel? Chimcar also got hints but wasn't as obvious
When a lot of people speculated the trade and Chimchar you really can't say that nobody thought so
So the good things about Chimchar and Aipom/Buizel is not that we couldn't predict it'll happen but the facts that these are totally new ideas that didn't happen before (Ash get a Pokémon released by his rival and two main characters trade) and also the character development we'll get from this (Chimchar and Paul - enough said and Aipom/Buizel will probably find it hard at the beginning to get used to their new trainers)

The episodes between the Gyms are great, but I would be lying if I said I don't feel a little anxious to get to the third Gym already. Its been a 20+ episode gap, and its turning out to be the longest gap between Gyms in the anime.

I don't care how many episodes Sinnoh is, as long the gym battles are interesting, the contests are fun, and the fillers are fresh and exciting.

Yeah, bar the Mira episode, most of the post-Eterna episodes have been enjoyable. The Tag Battle was probably one of the best arcs ever.
