How many new Pokémon do you expect to be added

Self-Explanatory

I'm thinking around 125 though.

Gen I: 151 new
Gen II: 100 new
Gen II: 135 new
Gen IV: 107 new
Average = 123.25 rounded is 120

Gen V: ?

Ideas?

They're gonna break 600 total, I'm pretty sure. beyond that, I have no idea -- since Gen. III's 386 and Gen. IV's 493, it's hard to guess at an exact number.

When you round if the number is less than 5, you round down (to 123 in this case). Plus even if you round up it would be 124, not 125.

I expect... at least 11 new pokemon. 3 3-line starter pokemon (9) and 2 Legendaries. のヮの Can't beat that prediction, amirite?

I really hope the new grand total of Pokemon will be a nice number, preferably 600 or 625 if they'd think 107 new species to be too few. I'd be fine with 600 altogether... just enough of this 386/493 crap already.

I'd place my bets on 100 or so. They sound like they're going for features, so I think they'll keep the number down to a relative minimum. It's not going to be like Gen III's numbers.

how much more can they add though its still the DS/DSi, but hopefully they do focus on features i'm not sure

100-120 at an absolute max. I agree with Archaic, new features > new pokemon

How so? There are a lot of rumors of new features, and vague statements about where they want to take the series, but the creators have been pretty tight-lipped on the specifics. Plus, I don't see why more features must mean fewer Pokémon.

Going by previous releases, I'm guessing more than 130 new Pokémon for Gen V. With fewer (pre)evolutions of existing Pokémon.

Exactly I agree. This is on the DS after all, so it's not like there are many options for new features. Maybe quite a few but nothing that would require a bunch of time to think of. Besides if 5th gen was being developed right after Diamond and Pearl (maybe before its release) than they could easily have come up with quite a few Pokemon during that time.

heck I would love something near 150, but that isn't going to happen, I would like at least 130 though (minimum 115).

Personally in my opinion the more the better, as in more options, more new type combinations. Possibly even moves are created with Pokemon so maybe some more moves.

I'd find it good if they made a lovely number like 600 611 625 or even 650. If they added 157 new pokémon it'd be big news amirite?

You don't need a new platform to make new features. Two examples I can think of off the top of my head: Persona 3 & Persona 4, .hack//IMOQ and .hack//G.U. All of these were for the PS2.

I'm thinking their going to end up around 590-ish...I doubt they will break the 600 number at all...plus if they do completing the Dex would be fucking horrible.

This.

To be sincere, after the worst designs in the franchise being those of GenIV (IMHO), this time I'm near to not give a damn about creatures, I'm just looking for features. Right now, I only care about starters and legendaries. Other than that, the mons are getting very generic and unoriginal, so I'm here for the gameplay and a few cool monsters.

But my bet is 100-120.

true catching or at least even scanning 600 Pokémon would be freakin' hard, and I'm not sure Nintendo would want to do that to some of their younger audiences.

I'll clarify a bit: the thing that makes me think they won't use the majority of their development time and energy making a ton of new features is the fact that they just did that. HGSS was pretty much pumped full of new shiny features. And the way I see it (pure speculation, of course), chances are good that they finished developing more features that didn't make it into the final game, that will now debut in Gen. V instead.

Personally, I want a small number (Relative to Pokemon). I don't want to spend forever catching hundreds of new pokemon that have insane capture methods. I want quality over quantity, like Johto's pokemon. If you didn't like Johto, then you at least have to admit that the more crowded generations had some pretty underused pokemon (Think: Lovedisc). I'd like some more formes as well, so I could take an old pokemon and turn it into something new.

What will we likely get? 125 sounds like a reasonable estimate to me. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's what I'm expecting.

Like 493 was that much easier? Considering that catching all of them hasn't been plugged as a main goal of the games for a long time now (to the point that Gen' IV's main Dex number was Seen instead of Owned), I doubt they're very concerned about that.

I really don't think 600 is excessive at all, it's just another 107 to go and also, they'll only tell us about 100 anyway, keep 7 as a wee surprise.
