How much DEM does BW have compared to previous seasons?

I find BW to have more tauroscrap battles/other competitions than Sinnoh, slightly more than Johto, and less than Kanto and Hoenn.

If there were less evolve mid battle or lose cases and pikachu got a light ball onscreen then BW would have done a lot better.

I think BW was done a lot more better then DP, BW improved with the animation and the interesting battles we seen.

I'll just say a LOT! :dead:

Um, I don't think you understand the Question. Google Deus ex machina.

Too much DEM. Made the battles lackluster and frustrating to watch. Hopefully XY makes an Improvement

I honestly think Advanced Generation was way worse when it comes to DEM victories. Way, way worse.

To answer the thread question a lot. But nothing tops AG. I mean Corphish tying with a Swampert. Yeah right.

BW wasn't that bad. Kanto had the most of these. League battle: Bulbasaur vs. Scyther is a classic example.

What does DEM mean?

Deus ex machina

Where a seemingly Unsolvable problem is abruptly and suddenly resolved. In pokemon it refers to events or battles where someone will be losing massively, with pretty much no way of winning, and then something will happen and they'll win out of nowhere. For example Axew learning Outrage to beat Golett, Rogenrolla Evolving and learning a fighting type move to beat Excadrill, Pikachu managing to beat Serperior, despite Serperior dominating the whole match.

Hope this helps. BW had a lot of it. But probably not as much as AG

Oh thanks. It helped. But then yes BW has very much of that. Another great example: Pikachus Static paralyzes Roxies Garbodor.

Though Coach already gave an explanation, I think I'll add to it to further help Palppy (or anyone else ) understand, if that's okay. (And hope this isn't overdoing it)

For starters, you need to know that deus ex machina is Latin for "God from the Machine". This comes from how in ancient times during a play, a god/goddess would appear via a stage machine (rising platform , hanging from a pulley, etc.) to help the hero out of a problem he couldn't possibly solve on his own (and if you've read enough myths, you know that the gods could be downright meddlesome sometimes)

It now means a completely sudden, unexpected and downright random event that just so happens to work in the good guys' favor, most often without any foreshadowing or explanation.

And it comes into play here because it happens a LOT in BW and even moreso in AG. (random evolutions/new moves for the win :-|)

I apologize if that was too much, just trying to help folks better understand (used to confuse me before someone filled me in)

I would like to remind everybody of Thunder Armor- thanks.

Definitely AG.

To add to that: Why didn't Roxie stick with ranged attacks, physical attacks just puts Garbodor more at risk for electric shocks.

Just because Roxie recognizes Pikachu as a Pokémon from Kanto she doesn't necessarily know what kind of ability it has. She is a Gym Leader in Unova, after all.

I was referring to electric attacks period, not necessarily static.

That's hardly anything you can call DEM in that case. Garbodor didn't really get hit easier with Pikachu's Thunderbolt due to it repeatedly attacking with Doubleslap, as the matter of fact I don't recall it being hit once during the time it attacked with its physical moves, but it did get hit by Thunderbolt while there were some distance between them. So, how is that DEM really?
