It's probably a fairly safe bet that people on a Pokémon forum in 2026 are probably pretty active as Pokémon fans. But I'd be interested to know just how active? Are we talking a least an hour a day (not that difficult if you're playing multiple mobile games)? Several hours a day? What about on a weekly basis? Are you someone who could spend more than 10 hours in a typical week on Pokémon?

For the purposes of figuring out how much time you're spending, let's include:
  • Playing Pokémon games (video games, TCG, board games, LEGO sets, etc)
  • Watching any Pokémon related video series (official, streamers, etc)
  • Reading anything Pokémon related (manga, fanfics, news stories about Pokémon, etc)
  • Purchasing Pokémon merch (if you're spending time every week shopping, that can be a pretty serious time investment)
  • Discussing Pokémon online or offline (in forums, Discord, etc, regardless of if it's with friends or random strangers online)
  • Anything else you can think of that's Pokémon related that I've left off this list.
In my case.... we'd get two very different numbers depending on if we include hours I'm doing something related to managing Bulba or not. Assuming we're not including that sort of thing, we're still talking at least 7 hours a week in a bad week (where I'm pretty much only able to keep up with Masters EX and TCG Pocket), and probably closer to 10-14 hours a week in a typical week currently.

I only do 2-3 battles a day on Champions, mostly to deal with dailies so it can be anywhere from 15-20 minutes to nearly an hour depending on how long the battles take (assuming Singles in my case) so that's at least around 3 hours assuming I'm not putting in extra time on other things or going over my assigned limit. As for other things, I know I can spend at least five hours watching Pokemon streams but if I am rather active you can put in 8-10, but these are usually catching up on competitive-related VODs otherwise it might be much lower if we're talking about potential essay content. As for discussing, that's another 3-4ish. So, put together, it's at least 12 hours but there is a few asterisks to put next to that since my engagement can be really volatile depending on mental factors going on but safe to say that's a solid estimate.

Watching this anime for the sake of taking notes is becoming a full time job at this point. But before that it was pretty on and off. It was usually a dormant thing that would become a hyperfixation every half a year or so because I'd meet a new friend also into it and it would rekindle that spark. But once the hyperfixation rekindling hit it'd take up my entire day usually, with lore writing as the default. Like how it is right now

Oh man i don't think it'd be even possible to catalog how much time i spend thinking about pokemon, im autistic and the games are my special interest so its on my mind nearly 24/7. Between checking these forums and managing my pokemon fan blog on tumblr as well i'm already spending probably hours a day directly engaging with pokemon fan content. Adding things like watching youtube videos, creating fanfic and fanart, and actually playing the games into the mix... well the number certainly can get quite high for me.

I come here regularly since discussion is better here compared to places like Reddit

Currently playing Z-A and Platinum while collecting some cards

I play some of the mobile games every morning for the dailies (Sleep, Masters and PTCGP.) Even if it isn't my current obsession, Pokémon is a load-bearing fandom to me lol.

Considering my iPad died on Friday and I'm unable to draw, I was considering firing up LeafGreen and playing that on the Switch today. :bulbaLove:

I think I do engage with some media from Pokemon or at least think about it for a minimum of once a week. I don't think I even notice it a lotta the time because I spend a buncha time either talking with fans/engaging in the fandom or just playing some games. Maybe I'm just nerdy or something lmao

Haven't played the games in a while because of fatigue but I do engage in the occasional Pokemon content from YouTubers and once again, I'm watching the Horizons anime which I started this April (although binging it in a slow pace of an episode a day unless I don't feel like it that day)

I do notice that until recently, I think so much about Pokemon (especially the Horizons anime) whilst daydreaming and bored and I kinda wonder what that means?

Anime: Between 0-2 hours per week depending on my projects.
Games: Between 0-3 hours per week depending on my projects. Sometimes I'm completing a Pokedex in one main series game and playing events in another and sometimes I'm playing other franchises.
Manga: Currently 0, haven't been able to find HGSS in Spanish and in a decent available physical format.
Youtube: I watch around 8 hours a week, and I'd say around 35% of it is Pokemon-related, so 2.8 hours.
Music: A few of them are Pokemon-related but I don't necessarily think of Pokemon when hearing them, so let's say 0.2.
Social Media: I'd say 15%-20% is Pokemon content, so 2.4 hours a week.
Drawing: Nothing too professional, around 30 minutes per week.
Content creation: My Anime & other things blog, around 2 hours. Fakemon and/or content reading, 1 hour. Fanfic writing, 3 hours though currently I'm on hiatus.
The best forums: Around 1-1.5 hours.
Masters: 1 hour

So in total around 12.4 hours. Half a day! And that's not counting random thoughts.

The extent of which I interact with Pokemon is ALWAYS fluctuating. I looked back on my activity log on my 3DS and it said that one week, I spent a total of about 24 hours in Pokemon Omega Ruby. It was kind of scary to see the hours stack up that week.

Other weeks, I don’t even think about Pokemon at all. Recently, I’d say I’ve been averaging close to 0 hours a week for Pokemon. I guess that makes up for those hours I spent straining my eyes on my 3DS
