How strict are you when it comes to naming Pokemon

(NOTE: This thread isn't for posting up nicknames that you've given to your monsters. If that's what you're looking for, this is the thread for you.)

Just wondering how other players decide which of their Pokemon are deserving of a nickname.

I used to try and name every single monster I obtained, but now that the count is almost 500, it's getting harder and harder to come up with decent names. So right now, I'm only naming special Pokemon, like Shinies, Legendaries, and Pokemon I actually intend to use on my team.

Right now, I've decided to take a page out of PokeSpe!Gold's book and give my team names that end in -taro. It only really works for male Pokemon, but I haven't come across any females that I want to have on my team, so I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I have a list of nicknames for every pokemon evo line. So, I name everyone.

I only nickname Pokémon I intend to EV Train for a proper Team, and the Pokémon I pick to use throughout the in-game journey. I also name the Legendaries I can, but just changing their all-caps name to normal writing. That's about it for me.

I nickname every single pokemon I catch. Even the ones that are going to sit in a box and look pretty for the rest of eternity. Sometimes I'll forget what I named a random pokemon and duplicate some names, but it's usually not a big deal.

Re: How strict are you when it comes to nameing Pokemon

I don't name too many of my Pokemon. The ones I have named are ones that I use often and have really gotten a grasp on their personality.

I would love to name more of my Pokemon, or even all of them, but I'm never satisfied with the names that I come up with.

I don't really nickname at all. Whenever I do, its not much. Like Geo for a Geodude, or Zigger for a Zigazagoon.

By the way, you spelled naming wrong (there is no e).

D'OH!!

Ah well. That's what I get for posting past 3AM. Fix'd.

Heh, I only nickname Pokémon when I get more than one of a species which I intend to train.

But when I restarted Yellow a couple of months ago....
Pikachu: Nezuchan
Butterfree: Catie
Charmander: Samantha
Sand: Sue
Bulbasaur: Palpatine
I think I'm forgetting a few, but yeah. I'm odd.

I nickname almost every Pokémon that I am able to. The only ones I don't are ones that I obtain exclusively for breeding (i.e. Ditto, or Pokémon I've bred to pass egg moves or females to allow the offspring to receive them, and even then I sometimes name them).

I'm sorry...Sand? Oh, and not a thread to post nicknames. I linked to that thread in my first post.

I once spent a half an hour staring at my screen trying to think of a name for my Nidoran male. I just gave up and used Jack, uncreative, but badass. I am actually kind of depressed that I can't name them with longer names... I would love it if I could name a Lapras Charisma Blue.

EDIT: sorry, I orifginally intended to say I like creative names.

For example, a Swampert named Gorefan is my favorite nickname. It's creative, and for me implies good feelings.

Although, sometimes I'll use real names. Like Sasha, or Jack.

I typically name any pokemon I can come up with a name for. Sometimes that doesn't happen so it stays with its natural name. Dunbar the Dunsparce is probably a personal favorite.

I try to name anything I may use in battle, and occasionally I name HM slaves and things that hang around in my party a lot.

I seldom name my Pokemon

In Generations I and II, I used to name all my favorites (my Venusaur was Great Leaf, Blastoise was Jets, Hitmonchan was Punch Lord, etc) but now, the only Pokemon I've ever named are my Platinum and SoulSilver Starters, Torterra was Platinum and Feraligatr is Silver... not very original, but I like it

Why would anyone be strict? its not like you can blame anyone but yourself if you frak up the name. And to answer the question im not strict.

Normally, I don't nickname my Pokemon. But if I was, I'd just call them whoever I want.

before DPPT I named everyone but now I only name pokemon that I have ev trained

I'm sorry...Sand?
He probably meant Sandshrew (he most probably forgot to write the rest of the name, but it's still a nice coincidence, as
Sandshrew (Japanese: サンド Sand) is a Ground-type Pokémon.
)

Anyway, I nicknamed all Pokémon in Platinum by their Japanese romanization. I thought I could nickname every one in SS as well, but... I need a new theme. BMGf members? :D
