How to Fix the GTS

What I think they should do is a ranking system

You can only trade for pokemon of a similar or lower ranking depending on value in those games. For example Ratatta would be rank 1 you can ask for any other pokemon in Rank 1 of any level
Starters would be rank 2-4 depending on evolution stage Mythicals would be on the highest rank and can only be traded for other mythicals regular legendary pokemon would be the rank right below. Shiny status ups the rank of the pokemon to right below regular legends. Also make it so you can't ask for a pokemon with an impossible level such as a level 5 charizard. If you say you want a charizard the level setting should automatically go to level 36 and you should be able to put the exact level you want (of course with 100 being the limit, unless they change the limit this gen but I doubt that)

Since we can now ask for Pokemon that we haven't seen yet, I'd like to get a filtering system for that.

With the current system, you can ask for a Deoxys or a Darkrai by spelling the name correctly but in most cases, you can't actually make that trade. Mythicals are off limits for trading, which is why a ton of people pop shinies on the GTS asking for a Manaphy in return; they know that trade won't go through. What should happen is if someone taps out "Arceus" as the Pokemon they want for their shiny Mudkip, they get an error message ("You cannot ask for this Pokemon!"). The same thing should happen if someone asks for a level 1-10 Bibarel or the like; an error message pops up and the Pokemon in question cannot be deposited for trade.

But since that makes sense, it will probably never happen. =/

I'm not always sure about a ranking method (after all, I've had times that I was trading a spare legendary for a hard-to-find "common" Pokemon like glameow pre-ORAS- also: what about vivillion? It's a very common Pokemon, but certain forms are painfully desirable), I've always always always wanted the literally impossible trades to be fixed, and @Silverwynde, your proposed solution is elegant in its simplicity.

Edit: on top of that, I think that misspellings/non-real Pokemon should get a similar message. You can request a trade Dr "Pumpkin Pie" or "Ecans" and your poor Pokemon will sit, unseen by anyone, forever.

Good idea. A legendary for legendary makes a lot of sense. Same goes for mythical. Maybe one day they could do this.

Really, improving the GTS boils down to three things:

1 - If you're not allowed to deposit a Pokemon (e.g. a mythical), you're not allowed to request one either.

2 - "Pokemon I own" search filter enabled by default. Better yet, make it a visible toggle/checkbox on the search results screen. (Or, it could have the inverse label -- "show all offers" -- and be off by default.)

3 - Ability to reverse search the GTS, i.e. select a Pokemon from your box and pull up all offers requesting that Pokemon. Among other things, it would be a more efficient way to trade off your breeding extras.

^Yes plesse, especially #3! I have a billion 5iv scraggy that MUST GO!

^^You have no idea how much breeding throwaways I got before my Timid 6IV Gengar was born. Please make this a thing.

I have a better solution to getting rid of the underleveled problem. Just get rid of the whole idea of asking for specific levels.

I don't think that's a better solution, because:

1) Asking for a lvl 1 Pokémon mostly ensures you're getting a breeding reject with a big chance of having a good nature, ability and at least one good IV, which is what some people are looking for.

2) Some people may ask for a higher level Pokémon, so they don't have to train them from lvl 1.

3) Asking for levels avoids you getting a lvl 100 Magikarp, which I think no one wants.

Silverwynde's solution is really the better one, it should simply be impossible for people to ask for Pokémon with a level they can't have (like a lvl 1 Bibarel).

Also reverse search please.

The problem with the GTS is that many of the people who use it don't know how to use it. Actually, let's make that broader. They don't know how trading works.

A lot of the casual players want legendaries because legendaries are cool, but they don't grasp the value of what they offer vs what they ask. And while this isn't abnormal for games with onine marketplaces, the problem is that the system allows for these practices without any kind of oversight or efficient filter system.

I do agree that a helpful addition would be the ability to search for "who wants what I already have?" Basically, instead of offering up the supply and hoping there's demand you check the demand first and then supply for it.

Pokemon can be a little backwards at times XD

Well one thing they NEED to do is if they're not going to let people put event Pokemon on the GTS they need to make it impossible to request. That will cut down on all the trades asking for Mythicals at least.

Not sure there's an easy fix for the rest of it though.

Dunno level 100 shiny macgikarp is more vaulble then a shiny gyrados since literally everyone has one.
