How to play Gold and Silver

Hello. I want to play the original Pokemon Gold and Silver, but I'm unsure of the best way to do this. "New" games of these are selling for $100 on amazon, so I'm guessing Nintendo no longer produces them. Anyone have any ideas?

The used ones on amazon are going at around $15, but I don't trust most of them to have a fresh battery. Would I be best off intentionally buying games with a drained battery and replacing it? If so, does anyone know a good guide explaining how to do so?

There are a lot of places who will replace the batteries for you, but it depends if you want an actual copy of the game or not?

If owning a real copy isn't that important to you then may I suggest the visualboy advance emulator? It's a tiny piece of software which will let you play a rom of the game, I have both a rom for gold and silver just not crystal for some reason I can't find that one lol.

However if you really want a genuine copy of the game I would advise you to check on ebay as well as amazon and make sure to check the person you are buying from has a high positive feed back rating, most sellers of genuine pokemon games on ebay will usually say if the battery needs to be replaced, but I'd replace it anyway even if the game was "new". Just because of the simple fact that the battery will lose it's charge naturally over time anyway wether the game has been played with or not.

I'm aware of (and may or may not use) emulators from NES to Wii, but I want the real cartridges. And yeah, I'm trying to get a brand new battery, so it'll 100% last for at least 5 years. Only a few people selling it talked about whether the battery works or not on amazon, and most of them just said "save works" which isn't good enough for me. I think 2 of them said "new battery", but I'm unsure how new that means it is.

How much would it cost for the replacement batteries? Unfortunately, I can't find any games for a dollar or two on amazon with broken batteries like I was hoping. Perhaps I'll have better luck on eBay.

I honestly don't know how much a new battery will cost but when I was looking at old pokemon games on ebay a while back now.. I did come across a few people offering it as a service but not sure if I would trust them or not. You could try asking at a computer repair shop or a 2nd hand shop for consoles and games? Some places will buy broken consoles and repair them or use them for parts we had one near me called the exchange but it closed down.

I've seen a couple of guides on replacing the battery which doesn't look extremely hard, was just trying to see if someone knows one that is reliable and that they trusted. As far as taking it to someone else to do it.. there's a place near my parent's house that I think would do it, since they have fixed consoles in the past this should be a quick fix for them.

I've replaced the battery on my Silver version after the previous one died using a CR2032 battery, which is the same one used for the Pokéwalker, by using a video on YouTube and it has worked. Good CR2032 or CR2025 batteries in the UK are normally £4 and come in pairs.

Well, it should definitely be in The Lost Tower forum. Sorry, simply didn't see it. As far as whether or not it should go in that thread, I think is debatable.
