How will this generation handle area-based evolutions?

In HG/SS, Magnezone, Probopass, Leafeon, and Glaceon were unobtainable due the fact that there was no Mt. Coronet, Moss Rock, or Ice Rock.

Are they going to make new areas for these Pokemon, or will they create a Magnet Stone for Magnezone and Probopass, retcon Eevee so that it evolves into Leafeon with a Leaf Stone, and create an Ice Stone for Glaceon?

I just thought I'd put this up for discussion, as it would be kind of weird for every future region to have a Moss/Ice Rock.

Maybe you are able to trade one of those pokemon back to Gen IV and evolve it there. That'd be very annoying though.

make new stones,
they should of originally made eevee evolve with leaf stone but seeing as it wasn't a possibility during gen 1-3 they decided to use a different tactic, so considering this they may make a moss stone and ice stone (but they would need more than just these 2 using them)
as for zone and pass they may make a stone from coronot or since there are caves in every gen they could just have them only evolve in caves,

Probably the new area one.

I wish that they'd just retcon all of the hard evolutionary methods. Nobody wants to make pokeblocks and raise a Feebas to highest beauty or tredge to an inconvenient location to level up a pokemon.

I'm not saying that location pokemon are all bad, but I'd prefer that it's not in some outlandish location. Make it simple, like in any dark area or something. Give us an item to use, call it an 'ice shard' or a 'moss clump' or a 'magnet arm'. Just don't make it ridiculous.

Leafeon should be made via a Leaf Stone.
Glaceon could get a ice stone or something, or maybe use the dawn stone.

However, since a forest/ice route is likely in Gen V, this probably wouldn't be needed.

Just have locations in the new Region that do the same. That just makes enough sense. More than axing them in HGSS for no good reason. Amusingly, they even bothered to add meteorites for Deoxys, the Rotom appliances, and a way to get a Gracidea in HGSS, but no way to get the location evolutions.

Similarly, Umbreon and Espeon were unobtainable in FireRed and LeafGreen due to the lack of a real-time-clock. GF seems to find this kind of thing acceptable, when there's a game in the same generation where said evolution is obtainable.

Even if Gen V is able to trade back to Gen IV, they'll likely add locations into the new region that have the same evolutionary effects for new players who may not have Diamond, Pearl or Platinum. Maybe there'll be a hint given by some NPC in the Gen V areas by commenting on how the area "has a spiritual connection to such-and-such area of Sinnoh".

This = solution!

Hell yes. There might be similar locations to Mt. Coronet and Eterna Forest in Region V. There might also be snow somewhere around there.

They'll make new areas. A magenetic rock for Probopass and Magenezone, probably some sort of tree for Leafeon and perhaps a big lump of ice for Glaceon. It's highly likely that there will be more snowy areas in the new game, probably on top of the regions mountain, like in D/P/Pt and HG/SS.

I think they'll re-place the rocks somewhere and make another magnetic area. Easy.

New areas seem likely, as with Main Series games, they hate to change evolution methods (does XD count as Main Series? Because that's the only game they have, and that was only for Espeon and Umbreon).

I believe I heard somewhere that Magneton and Nosepass can evolve in Mt. Silver. Too bad the same doesn't apply for Eevee in Ilex Forest or the Ice Path.

For Magnezone and Probopass, they could have a statue somewhere that was notable for 'being made of a special rock, imported from Sinnoh :O'.

I would believe that the main reason why the 5th generation would be also in the DS is because they plan to continue the DPt series, doing an extension of the Sinnoh region, similar to Johto/Kanto... Thus, it would allow our Eevees to evolve to Leafeon and Glaceon, Magnetons to Magnezone, Nosepass to Probopass etc.

New locations with old effects would be my educated guess.

There is an electromagnetic cave of sorts.

They just have to put the green and blue rocks in some place for eevee and they won't even need to have to do retconning nor anything.
I mean, it's basically creating two NPC objects (the "interact with rock to trigger evolution" and a tile, and copypaste the evolutionary stone script. It'd be stupid not to have them.

Specially as it's likely you'll be able to obtain Eevee in the games...
