PLEASE READ FIRST!

The majority of Pokemon fans on these forums and Serebii say that the main focus characters of the Anime (Ash, May and Dawn) can't win a league or a GF on their first time or on screen for a number of reasons.

To save time, I'll cut straight to the point: If our heroes WERE to win a League or Grand Festival, then how would the story building up to their victory have gone? What training would they need to win the final battle and claim the title as champion? How would YOU know that they truly earned their place as the Top Trainer or Top Co-oridinator? Know what I mean?

If I'm not being specific enough, then feel free to ask. Anywho, please reply soon to state your thoughts and ideas on the subject.

I said that if Dawn were to win the Grand Festival, and the show were to end magically, then I'd be somewhat content because I'd know my favorite character had won one of the biggest competitions ever, and it would always be available on rewatch.

However, when it didn't happen, I knew Dawn wouldn't give up on her dream still.

I too, want a tournament to be won, even things such as the Whirl Cup I wanted Misty to win, but when she didn't, and Ash didn't win his Leagues, and May and Dawn didn't win their Grand Festivals, I figured there must be a reason behind it.

I am not saying I'm right, but sometimes you can learn more from your defeats than victories, and losing shows that these characters aren't perfect, golden boys or golden girls.

No one is perfect, and I think the writers set a marvelous example showcasing this. You can always improve, and there is always room to learn, at least IMO.

While you do have a point, I have to ask how Ash is suppose to become a Pokemon Master if he can't win a single league?

Also the point of the games is that you get stronger through personal experiences and eventually become champion of a regional League.

By the way, did you even read the post?

Yes, I did. I do feel where you are comming from, once news got hold that Dawn made it to the finals in her Grand Festival, I went crazy and basically demanded that she win, asked any body who watched on here, I was one of thos Dawn crazy fanboys who thought she was entitled to it.

It's natural to ask, when the fuck is someone going to win already? Especially Ash, because after all it has been 13 years, but as far as what you said comparing the games, IMO, I don't think we should.

You've seen the anime, you know Legendaries aren't that easy to catch, and Cynthia is easier to beat than the anime lets on, because the game gives you a realistic motive, and not everyone starts over like Ash, and decides to use the most inexperience pokemon each gym battle to give them a win.

If Ash was using his Kanto team still each region on the regular, he would probably be a master right now, but he isn't, he starts over, and that's a gamble, and while he may have swapped this past league, clearly he still has a long way to go.

I'd rather have Ash win realistically and fairly, than having him win for the hell of giving him the title. Also, Ash's loses, sadly, keep the anime running, or at least his position anyway.

The only way I could see Ash winning a League in a deserving manner, is if he carefully trained all of his Pokémon as opposed to just expecting them to do well. He would also have to examine his opponents' teams in advance (which we know is possible) and explain the specific selection of his own team. Every single battle would require a heavy amount of prediction, which is an element that has never really been present in the show.

Ultimately, I don't think it would be meaningful if Ash won any league other than the Indigo Conference. What would be so special about any other league? The only time Ash even seemed to care about losing was in his regional league. We also know from the Lucian episode that Ash couldn't become the Champion of any Elite Four other than the Kanto one, even if he managed to come out triumphant in another region. That said, I suppose Ash could win another region's league, lose the Elite Four challenge, and then be inspired to return to Kanto if the real-life circumstances allowed it.

I think a lot of people misunderstood that scene... I think they just tried to say that in order to challenge a certain region's E4 - you have to win the League of that region...

Lucian sad that anyone who wins a league gets the chance to take on the E4 and Cynthia. Anyone who defeats the champion becomes the new champion. If Ash somehow mananged to defeat Cynthia he would become Champion even though he wasn't from Sinnoh.

Exactly... I never got why people were so confused about that scene...
All they said is that if you win region X's League, you can challenge region X's E4

I don't know about the original but in the dubbed version Lucian says that you have to win your HOME region league. I think it's the word home that has people confused, including me. ^_^;
