How would you feel if BW is the first saga with no older main character cameos?

I am basically making this thread asking this, how would YOU feel if Best Wishes is the first saga where no older main character comes back to visit for a few episodes? BW is still going out of its way to avoid mentioning the past much, and given how Ash has been redesigned slightly, I am not sure if we'll be seeing any older characters in Unova. Case in point, the Dawn/Brock specials still used the DP animation.

As we know, this is what happened in the previous arcs:

AG: Misty only got 2 episodes in Hoenn, but then re-appeared after the Hoenn league for another 2 episodes. However nobody returned in BF at all besides Gary at the tail-end.

DP: May returned for 4-episodes and was put into one of Dawn's story arcs, and Gary got to appear for roughly 3 episodes. No other old characters appeared besides references.

BW: Possible no old character cameos?


How would YOU feel if none of Ash's friends appear this saga, at least in Unova at any rate?

This show has been nonthing else than one dissapointment after another. The writers apparently don't care, so why should we?

It doesn't really matter to me. Theory of mine is, since only the previous monsters are only accessible after you finish the main storyline of the Black and White games, only time will tell if they decide to bring some people back from recent series.

So far, it is Ash and Pikachu (obviously, as they're Pokemon's main staples), Prof. Oak, Delia (in small amounts, similar to her AG and DP appearances), Team Rocket (Jessie, James, Meowth and Giovanni to be more precise, but unsure about the secretary as her first appearance was the last episode of DP), the recycled DP Team Rocket music theme starting at the 3rd Gym battle episode, and from what I read, Peg (or Proof from the original) got a small shot I believe during the recent movie's credits.

I'm just indifferent. If they show up, it's a treat for us. Otherwise, I'll just stare at Best Wishes on whatever they deliver.

I'd be upset. I'm only sticking around watching/keeping up with the show for the hopes we will get cameos. If not then it's 4 years wasted waiting for me.

Firstly, Gary isn't a main character. A main character is a character who travels with the group for at least 4 episodes consecutively, which means that none of the rivals count, whereas Delia, Professor Oak and so on are recurring characters.

When the RS remakes come out, I can see May and Max coming back for a few episodes.

I wouldn't care. There's plenty of episodes I can go back and watch if I want to get my fix of the older characters.

Also, this thread isn't about who or who couldn't come cameo, just how you would feel.

I wouldn't mind seeing some cameos from older characters, if only to see how they're doing with their goals after they left the cast. However, if it doesn't happen, it wouldn't be a huge deal for me.

It makes little difference to me. I considered the previous cameos a treat and not a prerequisite. If this includes the older pokemon, which it more than likely does, I'm not sure how to feel about that. I've always and will remain to be an advocate of more character development over "catching them all". It can't be helped now, though.

Is there a reason why Gary is being treated as a "main character" in the case? Gary Oak was a rival, a recurring character who made sporadic appearances many times in the series. He did not travel with Ash for an extended period of time.

As far as the real "main characters" are concerned, it wouldn't make a difference to me if they were ever mentioned in this series. Certain main characters have already been fleshed out in previous story arcs so there would be no reason to bring them back now.

I would be glad as it because I wouldn't want to see Dawn make a cameo with Iris currently on the spotlight.

I would be disappointed,but i already got used to disappointments and let downs with older characters when it comes to writers of this show.

Each previous Ash traveling companion has potential and material to offer more on table being great in its own way so it would be shame and pity to see them erased completely from existence never to be seen again.

I would like to see them return with some new fresh material being provided getting updated.Like what new pokemon they might have obtained,how much they developed in mean time,what new steps thy might have taken to advance their goals and whats been going on with them.Whether its case about Misty,May,Dawn,Brock,Tracey or Max their existence should be acknowledged getting some chance to shine.

Each previous main character played important part in pokemon series contributing to its success and what this show became nowdays deserving better than just being left abandoned and forgotten like they never existed in first place.Such act would not only be disrespectful and ignorant from writer side toward character but fans as well.

Since i care about older main characters,of course i would mind if they dont return in BW to see them interact with Iris and Cilan,maybe battle and how much progress they made providing us with some new info.But unfortunately its not like i can do much about it.

I agree how some ex main characters were fleshed out enough getting proper closures and huge amount of character development.Though that obviously wasnt the case with everyone having from story standpoint reasons to return(like Max or Misty for example).

Its quite possible that even after there won't be any old character cameos either.

I really don't think Iris and Cilan will meet any of Ash's older friends at all, for pretty much the same reason Misty and Dawn never met. Now that there's too many main characters, they have no reason to introduce them all to each other.

As for me, no, I wouldn't mind too much. I recognize the fresh start of BW so if we don't see anyone then so be it.

If the show ever does come to a concrete end though, then every character should return for the final 5 episodes or something.

If Dawn showed up randomly in Unova, this PearlShipper would be happy. :< Misty got to meet May, May got to meet Dawn. Dawn should meet Iris.

Slim chances, but I'd be glad if Dawn made her way into Unova.

Um... weren't the Hikari and Takeshi special episodes enough. I mean, sure they never got to see Ash and the others but they served the purpose of the character returns episodes by letting us know what they're up and how they're doing.

As for older, older characters I think it's safe to say we're not going to see any of them anymore. Kasumi and Haruka's stories are done and Kenji's just going to waste away at Orchid's lab. The only one who's got any kind of future possibility is Masato, but unfortunately I think he's just going to spend the rest of the franchise brushing Kekking's hair talking about how much he learned from Takeshi.

I'd love if they did appear and in fact it would make me feel a lot better about the current series, but at this point i'm no longer expecting it. If they don't appear I won't be suprised.
